PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dudu Morais (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Morais's entrance music is Man in The Box. A fine choice. Ron Paul will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dudu Morais!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ron Paul!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morais is trying hard to land a takedown here. Paul sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Paul drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Morais looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Paul throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Morais works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Paul postures up and lands a big shot to Morais's brow.

Morais working for a triangle but Paul defends it easily.
Morais working a defensive guard here.
Morais looking to hit a scissor sweep but Paul is one step ahead there.
Paul has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Paul accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Morais is trying to keep Paul in close.
Paul working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Morais not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Paul throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Nice uppercut there from Paul.
Morais throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Paul's waist but Paul gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Morais off to one side.

Paul moves into the clinch.
Paul has had enough of the clinch but Morais keeps him there for the moment.
Paul lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Paul manages to pull guard.
Paul trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Paul pulls Morais in close to prevent any damage.
Morais is breathing heavily.

Paul is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Morais defends well.

Morais wants to control from the top but Paul keeps moving.
Morais prevents Paul from getting back to his feet.
Paul looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Paul trying to control the position.
Paul is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Paul is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Morais has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Paul is working away from the top position though.
Morais wants to get back to full guard.
Paul thows a huge punch but Morais dodges it nicely.
Morais is trying to stand back up but Paul is controlling him
Morais tries to roll over but Paul keeps him under control.
Nice strikes from Paul there.
Morais is looking to control Paul's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Morais avoid being mounted?

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Paul misses with a head kick.
Morais dodges the punch combination from Paul.
Morais circles away from the clinch attempt.
No luck for Morais with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dudu Morais. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Morais on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Paul fails to land with a series of punches.
Paul misses with a body shot.
Paul will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A good leg kick by Morais.
Morais misses with a takedown attempt - Paul sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Paul lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Paul dominated that round.

Paul misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Dudu Morais is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Paul misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Morais.
Morais looks to land a combination but Paul avoids it well.
Paul shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Morais defends it nicely.
Paul takes a kick to the side of the head.
Morais tries for a takedown but Paul circles away easily
and Paul cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Paul uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Morais.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Paul gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Morais tries to pull guard but Paul won't allow it.
Morais is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Paul breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Paul takes one to the chin there.

Morais moves into range and clinches up with Paul.
Paul stops a takedown attempt from Morais.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Paul.
Morais wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Morais keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Paul's efforts to push away.
Morais trying to control the position but instead, Paul has worked for underhooks and has pushed Morais into the cage.
Paul pushes Morais back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Morais jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Paul walks away with a smile on his face. Morais gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Paul clinches up with Morais and pushes him back against the cage.
Morais tries to pull guard but Paul holds him up against the cage and eventually Morais drops back down to his feet.
Morais wants to get back to striking at distance but Paul won't allow it.
Morais goes for a takedown in the clinch but Paul prevents it.
Morais keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Paul's efforts to push away.

Paul pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Morais has had enough of the clinch but Paul keeps him there for the moment.
Morais wants to break free but Paul has control.
Paul tries to break the clinch but Morais is controlling the position.
Paul is trying to force a seperation but Morais has the dominant position.

Paul gets control of Morais's arms and successfully pulls guard. Paul will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Morais wants to pass the guard but Paul is keeping the position.
Paul has Morais pulled in close to control his posture.
Paul is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Paul manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Morais avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Morais darts in trying to clinch

and Paul counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Morais utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Morais is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Paul slips nicely into half guard.
Morais is looking for a sweep. Paul is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Paul showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Paul misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Morais.
Morais wants to clinch.
Paul stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Paul wants it to stay on the feet.

Paul feints and as Morais raises his hands in defense, Paul changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Morais might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Paul content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Paul stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Morais swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Paul decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Paul is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Morais.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

and Morais counters with a big head kick but Paul shrugs it off.

Morais tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Paul just stands there and leans against the cage.
Morais wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Paul breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Paul closes the distance and pushes Morais back into the cage.
Morais is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Paul has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Morais clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Paul is landing with strikes from the back.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Paul.
Paul is working the ground and pound. Can Morais escape?

Paul connects with a big shot to the side of Morais's head.
Paul throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Morais!
Morais manages to reverse the position and now he's in Paul's guard. Nice work there by Morais.

Morais decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Morais throws a quick inside leg kick.

Paul shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Morais is looking for a sweep. Paul is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Morais looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Paul lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Morais regains full guard. Nicely done.
Paul postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dudu Morais has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ron Paul is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Paul is working Morais over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ron Paul comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Paul has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
