PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Augustus Machiavelli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Volk Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machiavelli's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, August Burns Red - "11th Hour". Volk Khan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Augustus Machiavelli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Volk Khan!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machiavelli connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Machiavelli misses with a looping left.
Machiavelli throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Khan takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Machiavelli misses with a two punch combination.
Khan uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Machiavelli.
Machiavelli is looking to chop away at Khan's legs.
Khan takes a swing at Machiavelli's ribcage but misses.
Machiavelli misses with a straight right.
Khan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Khan gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Khan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Machiavelli sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Khan somewhat.
Khan fails to land the takedown.
Augustus Machiavelli has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Volk Khan.

Machiavelli stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Machiavelli wants it to stay on the feet.
Machiavelli throws a lazy right hand but Khan sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Machiavelli checks the leg kick nicely there.
A big right from Machiavelli misses.
Machiavelli bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Machiavelli misses with an uppercut.
Khan shoots for a takedown but Machiavelli saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Machiavelli lands a body shot.
Khan gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Machiavelli.
Machiavelli throws a looping overhand right but Khan ducks down to avoid it.

and Khan counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Machiavelli's guard now.
Machiavelli wants to stand but Khan is controlling the position.

Machiavelli won't allow Khan to pass to mount.

Machiavelli can't keep his opponent in guard - Khan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Machiavelli wants to get back to his feet.

Khan is working for a kimura but Machiavelli is defending it quite comfortably.

Khan wants to work for an arm triangle but Machiavelli is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Khan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Machiavelli has managed to free his arm - good work.

Khan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Machiavelli defends it well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Khan throws a right and a left that both miss.
Machiavelli keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Khan ducks under a wild hook from Machiavelli.
Machiavelli throws a body punch but Khan moves out of range.
Khan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machiavelli's waist but Machiavelli gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Khan off to one side.
Some bone on bone action there as Khan checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Machiavelli throws a lazy right hand but Khan sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Machiavelli pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Khan fails to land with a series of punches.
A slow jab from Machiavelli misses its intended target.
Machiavelli tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Khan was well out of range. Poor timing from Machiavelli.
Khan tries a head kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Augustus Machiavelli dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Machiavelli tries to kick Khan off but Khan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Khan is looking to advance position but Machiavelli won't allow it.

Khan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Khan jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Machiavelli manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Machiavelli tries to bench press Khan off him but Khan keeps the position.

Khan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Machiavelli is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Khan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Khan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Machiavelli manages to work his way to half guard, despite Khan's best efforts.

Volk Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Khan jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Machiavelli is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Machiavelli and Khan has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Khan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Khan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Machiavelli knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Volk Khan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Khan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
