Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vlad The Impaler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vlad The Impaler! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good work by Silva as he checks the leg kick. The Impaler fails to land the takedown. The Impaler throws a front kick aimed at Silva's knee but Silva avoids it well. The Impaler gets caught flat footed, as Silva shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The Impaler keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Silva has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of The Impaler is proving hard to escape from. The Impaler trying to control the position.

The Impaler has his foot on Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silva works his way back into a safe position though. Silva is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Silva has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Silva changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The Impaler looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The Impaler throws Silva to one side and escapes! The Impaler misses with a wild combination.
The Impaler looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Silva moves out of range of the leg kick from The Impaler. The Impaler gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Silva counters with a flying knee. Nice. The Impaler misses with a double jab
and Silva counters with a head kick. Silva works over The Impaler's head and body with a nice combination.

Silva gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Silva wants a takedown.
The Impaler is trying to break the clinch but Silva has him pressed against the cage. Silva tries to pull guard but The Impaler won't allow it.

Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The Impaler stands up and waves to Silva to follow him. Silva shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says The Impaler as he avoids it easily. The Impaler throws a combination that misses and Silva counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. The Impaler is lucky that one didn't land flush. The Impaler shoots and misses and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for The Impaler!

The Impaler is desperately trying to improve his position but Silva has a good base and remains in mount. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Silva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silva shoots in looking for a takedown. The Impaler tries to sprawl out of it but Silva keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. The Impaler manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. The Impaler throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for The Impaler! Silva moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, The Impaler has worked his arm free - good work by The Impaler!
Silva working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Silva is looking to take a break and control but The Impaler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The Impaler wants to control but Silva postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. The Impaler is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Silva's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Silva prevents The Impaler from improving his position. The Impaler looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The Impaler is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Silva pulls his head out easily. Silva wants to take a breather but The Impaler is having none of it.

Silva looking for a sweep. Not yet Silva, not yet. The Impaler slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Silva is trying to improve his position. The Impaler working away. The Impaler trying to control the position but Silva is working away.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. The Impaler throws a leg kick and Silva counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Silva.

Silva stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Silva wants it to stay on the feet. The Impaler wants to land a leg kick but Silva is out of range. The Impaler avoids a punch combination nicely.
The Impaler shoots in for a double leg but Silva sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. The Impaler swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Silva holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Silva drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The Impaler looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Silva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The Impaler is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Silva is looking to control The Impaler's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Silva avoid being mounted? Ground and pound from The Impaler. The Impaler stalling away here and it's allowed Silva to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. The Impaler thows a big elbow that misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. The Impaler doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. The Impaler manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Silva wants to stand up but The Impaler is controlling him. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Silva is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of The Impaler's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take The Impaler's back!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. The Impaler has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. What can The Impaler do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Silva's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by The Impaler. The Impaler wanted to stand there but Silva had control of the position. The Impaler decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. The Impaler with a poor takedown and Silva counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Anderson Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vlad The Impaler. The Impaler throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

The Impaler working away from the top, dropping strikes. The Impaler lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. The Impaler avoids the attempt from Silva to control.
And that's the end of the fight! Anderson Silva showed his dominance in that final round. Well Silva has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
