Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gage R! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Evans! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Bruno Lombardi and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Evans misses with a body shot.
Evans digs a good body shot into R's ribs. Evans slips a straight right by R. Evans misses with a looping left. R keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Evans. Evans rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but R moves out of range and avoids them all easily. R steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Evans. R scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. R tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. R trying to control the position but Evans is working away. R scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Evans to see if he's OK. R wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Evans, who protects the arm well. R trying to control the position but Evans is working away. Evans is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Evans can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. R tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Evans tries to buck R off but R is having none of it. R postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Evans keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Evans avoids a punch combination nicely.
Evans throws a lazy right hand but R sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. R swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Evans counters with a right hand to the body. Jay Evans seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. R tries to clinch but Evans moves away and Evans counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. The fighters circling - Evans throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Evans throws out a loose jab but R uses good head movement to avoid it. The fighters circle momentarily. Evans darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. R misses with a wild body shot. Evans misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A swing and a miss from Evans. Evans throws a jab but it's blocked by R. Nice body punch from R. R shoots in but no luck this time. A telegraphed right hand from R misses the target. Evans throws an overhand right that lands on R's shoulder, as R tries to avoid the shot. R on the wrong end of a nice hook. R steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Evans.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Evans throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Evans throws an uppercut from half a mile away. R sees it coming and avoids it easily. A jab from Evans misses. Evans looks to score with a jab to the body but R is just out of range. R showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Evans.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by R!
It looks like Jay Evans has been cut. Evans misses with a double jab
and R cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. A slapping leg kick lands for R.
R keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Evans. Evans throws a body punch but R moves out of range. R lands a head kick. Evans smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Evans swings for the body but R moves out of range.
Evans swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
That's four minutes gone in the round. R misses with the combination.
Evans throws a left and a right that both miss
and R counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! R thows a huge punch but Evans dodges it nicely.
Still in half guard, R seems content to control. R seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. R has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. R is taking a breather. Evans says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. R slips a nice elbow through Evans's hands, connecting with Evans's forehead. Evans wants to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. R is trying for a kimura here. Evans looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! R wins by kimura!
