The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Michaels fails with an attempt to clinch.
Michaels has a takedown stuffed. Smyth scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Michaels fails with a takedown attempt. Michaels tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Smyth swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chaz Michaels. That's going to take a lot out of him. Michaels is breathing heavily. Smyth throws a head kick but Michaels moves out of range.
No joy there for Smyth, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Smyth gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Smyth lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Smyth with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Smyth is struggling to control the position. Smyth lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Michaels changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smyth fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Smyth fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Michaels.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Smyth. No joy for Michaels on that attempt. Smyth keeps Michaels at a distance using the push kick. Smyth pushes Michaels away with a front kick. Chaz Michaels seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Smyth throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Smyth takes the fight into the clinch. Michaels drops down looking for an ankle pick but Smyth pulls his leg out and moves away.

Smyth loads up on a big right hand but Michaels slips the punch. Smyth digs a good hook to Michaels's body.
Smyth tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Michaels was well out of range. Poor timing from Smyth. Smyth has managed to clinch.

Michaels is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Smyth gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Smyth scores with a knee to the head.

Smyth taking a breather. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Kris Smyth. Smyth lands a big head kick that sends Michaels tumbling to the mat! Smyth takes a step backwards and waves Michaels back to his feet - he wants the finish! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Smyth leaves Michaels with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Whack! Smyth lands a heavy head kick that drops Michaels. The ref tackles Smyth to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Michaels was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Kris Smyth!
