Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thurgood Farquardt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Monson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jeff Monson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeff Monson! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Farquardt avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Monson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Farquardt did well to prevent Monson getting side control. Farquardt trying to control here.
Farquardt is looking for a sweep. Monson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Monson performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Farquardt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Farquardt controlling the position well. Monson tries to pass to full mount but Farquardt defends it. Farquardt could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Farquardt throws a right and a left that Monson avoids nicely. Monson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Monson lands in his opponent's guard. Monson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Farquardt is keeping the position for now.

Monson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Monson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Monson is looking to advance position but Farquardt won't allow it. Monson not doing much here.

That's six minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Monson tries to control but Farquardt wriggling away. Farquardt is desperately trying to improve his position but Monson has a good base and remains in mount. Farquardt wants to control but Monson is having none of it. Monson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Farquardt turns into him and now he's in Monson's guard.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Monson wants to sweep here but Farquardt controlling him for the moment. Monson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Farquardt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Farquardt manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Monson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Monson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Monson moves out of range of the strikes. Farquardt displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Monson. Farquardt with a nice cross. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Farquardt misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Farquardt looks to score with a jab to the body but Monson is just out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jeff Monson dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
A telegraphed right hand from Farquardt misses the target. Farquardt tries to clinch but Monson is having none of it. Monson is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Farquardt misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Farquardt looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Monson scores with a takedown into Farquardt's guard. Farquardt utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Farquardt controls Monson momentarily but Monson frees himself.

Monson trying to control the position from guard on top but Farquardt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Monson controlling from the top position. Farquardt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Monson is one step ahead there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Farquardt can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Monson controls the pace. Farquardt controls Monson momentarily but Monson frees himself. Monson trying to control but Farquardt is working from the bottom. Farquardt is trying to keep Monson in close.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Monson tries to clinch but Farquardt moves out of range. Monson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Monson trying to control the pace. Monson is just content to waste time from the top position. Farquardt takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Farquardt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Farquardt keeping full guard, as Monson tries to pass. Monson stays in close to Farquardt's body and controls the position. Farquardt working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Monson. Farquardt is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Monson is controlling him. Farquardt keeping moving, preventing Monson from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Farquardt misses the shot to the body. Farquardt swats away the attempt to clinch by Monson. Monson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Farquardt's waist but Farquardt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Monson off to one side. Farquardt rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Monson moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Monson shoots in but Farquardt avoids the takedown attempt easily. Monson is breathing heavily. Farquardt with a body punch. A glancing blow.

Monson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Farquardt! Farquardt can't escape the position.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Monson looking for a guillotine from mount but Farquardt is having none of it. Farquardt is trying to reverse the position but instead Monson has taken his back - oops! Monson trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Monson is riding his opponent, not letting Farquardt buck him off. Monson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Farquardt has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Monson is not going to allow Farquardt to sit and survive in this position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Thurgood Farquardt will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

That's six minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Farquardt holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Monson tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Farquardt tries a knee to the head but Monson blocks it.

Farquardt is pushing Monson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Both guys are working to get underhooks. A short uppercut from Farquardt. Farquardt wants to break free but Monson has control.

Monson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that's the end of the fight! Jeff Monson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Monson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
