Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rai Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rai Costa!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa is looking to clinch.
Hughes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Hughes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Costa looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Costa tries to buck Hughes off but Hughes is having none of it.
Hughes works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Hughes is trying to get an arm triangle but Costa is defending well.
Hughes throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Hughes lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

You can see the frustration on Costa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hughes tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Costa is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Hughes goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Costa has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hughes but great work by Costa.
Costa throws a strike aimed at the side of Hughes's head but Hughes avoids it well.
Hughes tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hughes wants to get back to his feet but Costa drags him back down.
Hughes is breathing heavily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hughes throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Costa scores with a takedown into Hughes's guard.
Costa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Hughes manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Costa manages to get himself to full guard.
Hughes loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Costa bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hughes's guard.
Costa looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hughes wants to sweep but no luck.

Hughes isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Costa stacks Hughes on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Costa!
Hughes is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Matt Hughes will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Costa is looking to clinch.
Hughes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Costa sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Costa closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Costa breaks from the clinch.

Costa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Costa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Let's hope that Costa has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hughes is working to get back to half guard.
Costa controlling his opponent.

Hughes is looking to get to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hughes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hughes tries to get out of the position.

Hughes is working hard here to advance position.
Costa takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Costa controlling the pace for now.
Hughes is desperately trying to improve his position but Costa has a good base and remains in mount.
Hughes swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Costa controlling his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rai Costa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Hughes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!



Hughes tries to keep at a distance but Costa has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hughes is pressed up against the cage. Costa has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hughes down to the mat. Hughes avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Costa stalks Hughes and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hughes's face. Hughes staggers backwards, shaken.

and Costa counters with a shoot takedown. Hughes fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hughes is looking for a triangle here but Costa uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Costa decides to stand back up. Costa steps back and let's Hughes get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Costa darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Hughes is looking for a sweep. Costa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Costa looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hughes throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hughes trying to get back to full guard but Costa takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Hughes throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Hughes is in all sorts of trouble here.

Costa working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Hughes is looking to improve his position but Costa isn't that keen on the idea.

Costa controlling his opponent.
Hughes working to try and regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hughes's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Hughes wants to try and get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rai Costa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Costa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
