PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vinicius Escobar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vinicius Stevan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vinicius Escobar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vinicius Stevan!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Stevan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Stevan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Stevan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Escobar sprawls well. Escobar wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stevan gets slowly back to his feet.
Stevan lands a high kick!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Escobar leaves Stevan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Vinicius Escobar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vinicius Stevan.
Escobar slips a jab and a cross from Stevan.
Stevan closes the distance and clinches up with Escobar, looking for a takedown. Stevan pushes Escobar against the cage but Escobar circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Stevan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Escobar sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stevan somewhat.
Escobar stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Escobar wants it to stay on the feet.

Escobar throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Stevan fails with the takedown

and Escobar counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Escobar looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Escobar lands an uppercut.

Escobar wants to break free but Stevan has control.

It looks like Vinicius Stevan has been cut.
A punch combination from Escobar misses.
Escobar will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Stevan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Escobar tries to avoid it but Stevan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Escobar to the ground. Escobar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Stevan counters with a single leg into guard. Escobar didn't expect that.
Escobar wants to stand and escape but Stevan is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stevan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Escobar uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Escobar closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Escobar misses with a few strikes there.
Escobar lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Escobar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Stevan, pushing him back against the cage.
Stevan is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Escobar gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Escobar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Stevan circles away quickly and effectively.

Escobar is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Escobar is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stevan is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Escobar can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Stevan has control of Escobar's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Escobar regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Stevan controlling the pace for now.

Stevan has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Escobar tries to bum rush Stevan with a series of wild strikes but Stevan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Stevan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Stevan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Stevan had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Escobar is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Stevan Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Escobar's back instead.
