PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Reggie Bush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and K Barnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reggie Bush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, K Barnett!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Eddie Farnsworth and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bush with a nice cross.
Barnett fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Barnett has closed the distance and engaged Bush in a clinch.
Bush taking a breather.

Barnett breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Barnett shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bush pinned against the cage. Bush gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
K Barnett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barnett stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Barnett wants it to stay on the feet.
Barnett misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Barnett drops his hands momentarily and Bush takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Barnett has taken the fight to the clinch.

Barnett lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Bush wants to get back to his feet.

Barnett is keen to just control but Bush is a slippery customer.
Bush slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Barnett tries to stand but Bush is controlling from the bottom.

Barnett decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Barnett looks gassed!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bush slaps away a takedown attempt from Barnett, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Reggie Bush has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of K Barnett.
Barnett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Barnett throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bush's waist but Bush gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Barnett off to one side.

Bush looks to land a body kick but Barnett moved away.

Bush bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bush advances to mount.

Bush wants to finish this one by submission but Barnett is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Bush.
Barnett tries to reverse the position but Bush maintains control.

Bush lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Barnett hang on?
Bush tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Bush seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Barnett for as long as he can get away with.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Barnett keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Bush takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Barnett is squirming around, avoiding Bush's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bush avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

and Bush counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Barnett's guard now.

Barnett wriggles free and stands up.
Barnett missing with a left hand there. Bush was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bush cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Bush stands up from mount. Strange move.
Barnett is breathing heavily.

Bush digs a good hook to Barnett's body.
Bush shoots in for a double leg but Barnett sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Bush tries to clinch but Barnett moves away

and Barnett counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Barnett seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bush does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Bush is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Barnett's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Barnett's back!
Barnett takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Bush is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Bush scores with punches to the body.
Reggie Bush overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Oooh a big shot gets through from Bush. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Bush lands strikes to the head.
Bush is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Bush has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Barnett staying busy and making it hard for Bush to control.

Barnett tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Bush postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Barnett looks a forlorn figure.
Bush tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
You get the feeling that Barnett really doesn't like being in this position too much.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bush with the ground and pound from mount.
Bush sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Reggie Bush just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Bush tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Nice sprawl there from Barnett as Bush shoots in.
Bush moves in looking to clinch but Barnett pushes him off.
Bush dives in and grabs Barnett's left leg, looking for a takedown. Barnett pushes down on Bush's head and hops out.

Barnett has taken the fight to the clinch.
Bush is working for takedown but Barnett is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Reggie Bush. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Barnett manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Bush wants a takedown but no success here.
Bush tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Barnett smiles and moves away.

and Bush makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Reggie Bush is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Barnett moves in looking to clinch but Bush pushes him off.

Barnett doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Bush counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Bush tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bush stalling in the clinch but Barnett improves position.
Bush drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Barnett gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Bush jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Barnett walks away with a smile on his face. Bush gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Barnett shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bush as he jumps to the side.
Barnett moves out of range of the body kick from Bush.
Bush lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Barnett circles away quickly and effectively.

and Bush counters with a single leg into guard. Barnett didn't expect that.
Barnett can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bush controls the pace.
Bush will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Bush decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Barnett, up you get!

Bush shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barnett's guard.
Barnett looking for a sweep. Not yet Barnett, not yet.
Barnett wants to get back to his feet but Bush is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Barnett had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Bush is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Barnett Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Bush's back instead.
Barnett is trying to control but Bush is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Barnett is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Bush has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Bush!
Barnett can't keep his opponent in guard - Bush advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Bush wants to free his trapped foot but Barnett is holding on for dear life with his legs.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Barnett is staying active underneath Bush, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Barnett wants to get back to full guard.
Bush works his way into full mount!
Bush sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Reggie Bush showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bush, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
