2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bryan Askhat Kariebatonov! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Headbenze closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Kariebatonov wants to control but Headbenze postures up. Headbenze is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kariebatonov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Headbenze tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Headbenze has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Headbenze working away. Headbenze stands up. Kariebatonov thuds his shin into the meat of Headbenze's side. Kariebatonov plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Kariebatonov throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. A head kick from Kariebatonov lands but Headbenze takes it in his stride. Kariebatonov connects with a high kick. Kariebatonov lands a head kick. Headbenze smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Headbenze closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Headbenze tries to stand but can't do so whilst Kariebatonov controls his leg. Kariebatonov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Headbenze. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Headbenze is breathing heavily. Headbenze is looking to take a break and control but Kariebatonov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Kariebatonov gets back to full guard.
Headbenze is looking to stand up but Kariebatonov won't let him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kariebatonov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Headbenze might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Kariebatonov tries to strike from the bottom.

Headbenze is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Kariebatonov wants to sweep but no luck. Kariebatonov striking off his back but it's not causing Headbenze any problems. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Headbenze got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kariebatonov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Headbenze has managed to get both his arms back between Kariebatonov's legs - danger averted. Headbenze drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Headbenze jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kariebatonov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kariebatonov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Kariebatonov trying to control but he's not successful this time. Kariebatonov punishing his opponent with strikes. Kariebatonov is going olschool here, as he tries to force Headbenze to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Headbenze shrugs it off. Headbenze sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Kariebatonov is looking for a kimura but Headbenze is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kariebatonov to get the leverage. Headbenze makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Kariebatonov plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Headbenze shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kariebatonov defends it nicely. Headbenze fails with the takedown.

Headbenze shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Headbenze looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kariebatonov tries to get to full guard but Headbenze has control of the leg. Headbenze passes to full mount! Kariebatonov is looking to improve his position but Headbenze isn't that keen on the idea.
