Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Block Liddell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonathan Farris! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Liddell throws a hook to the side of Farris's head but Farris sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Liddell looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Farris moves away from the strike by Liddell. Liddell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Farris as he jumps to the side. Farris has managed to clinch.
Farris breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Farris misses with a takedown attempt and Liddell counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Farris is looking to escape. Liddell tries to pass to full mount but Farris defends it. Liddell is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Liddell has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Farris is trying to stand up here but Liddell is controlling him well. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Liddell in particular looking to stall. Farris wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Liddell with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Farris tries to kick Liddell off but Liddell keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Liddell keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Liddell can do anything to dispel that myth.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Block Liddell just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Liddell looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Farris scores with a jab to the head.
Nice takedown defense from Liddell. No joy for Farris on that attempt. Farris gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Liddell counters with a good, hard body kick but Farris shrugs it off. Farris tries to clinch but Liddell is having none of it. Horrible takedown by Liddell or perhaps it was just good defense by Farris which made him look bad. Liddell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Farris as he avoids it easily. Liddell has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Liddell there as he acknowledges the shot. Liddell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Liddell trying to control but Farris is working from the bottom. Liddell forces his way into half guard. Liddell content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Liddell seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Farris for as long as he can get away with.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Liddell is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Liddell moves nicely into side control. Liddell in side control, just content to control the action for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Farris tries to escape but Liddell is in control. Liddell controlling the position from side mount. Farris gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Liddell working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Liddell not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Farris will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Liddell keeps the fight on the outside. Horrible takedown by Farris or perhaps it was just good defense by Liddell which made him look bad. Liddell shoots in and bounces Farris off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Farris wants to stand but Liddell is controlling the position. Liddell controls from within his opponent's guard. Liddell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Farris wants to stand up but Liddell is controlling him.

Liddell moves nicely into side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Farris is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Liddell asserts his dominance and retains side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Farris closes the distance looking to clinch and Liddell counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Liddell winds up and cracks Farris with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Liddell trying to control the pace. Liddell prevents Farris from standing back up.
Well, if Liddell is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Farris has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever. Liddell keeps control of the position easily here as Farris tries to buck him off.
Farris has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Farris is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
And that's the end of the fight! Block Liddell showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Liddell, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
