PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jay Dee Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dond Bond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jay Dee Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dond Bond!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bond cracks the inside of Penn's front leg.
Penn shoots in but no luck this time.

Bond clinches with his opponent.

Bond manages to break the clinch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Bond closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn missing with punches from the bottom.
Bond tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Penn.
Penn throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Bond takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Bond postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Penn to stand up.
Penn misses with a takedown attempt

and Bond decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Penn's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Penn thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Penn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bond!
Bond working to try and regain half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bond tries to lock up and control but Penn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Penn misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Bond is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Penn misses with a head shot.
Bond working to try and regain half guard.
Bond wants to control but Penn is having none of it.
Penn throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Bond is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Penn misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Penn swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Bond is now in Penn's guard. A big mistake from Penn there, giving up the dominant position!
Penn is breathing heavily.

Penn looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Bond sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Penn tries to strike from the bottom.

Bond stands up from Penn's guard - Bond perhaps looking for a knockout.
Bond throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Penn doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bond counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Dee Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Penn has his takedown stuffed

and Bond counters with a nice double leg into side control. Penn won't be happy with that.
Penn is trying to escape the position but Bond is controlling the position.
Let's hope that Bond has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Penn is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Bond asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Penn prevents Bond from improving position.
You can see the frustration on Penn's face as Bond controls the position.
Penn is looking to reverse the position.
Bond slows the pace down.

Bond decides to stand back up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bond moves into range and clinches up with Penn.

Bond has clasped his hands together around Penn's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Penn sneaks back into half guard.
Penn is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dond Bond dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Bond counters with a head kick. That will keep Penn thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Jay Dee Penn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Bond counters with a shoot takedown. Penn fights it but they end up in guard.
Bond works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Penn tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Penn won't allow Bond to pass to mount.

Bond decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Bond throws a head kick that half lands.
Bond closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Penn doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Bond counters with a takedown into side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Penn tries to buck Bond off but Bond is having none of it.
Penn misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Penn throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Bond decides to stand up, so the ref orders Penn to his feet.

Bond gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Penn tries for a takedown. No joy.

Bond has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Penn regains guard immediately.
Penn striking off his back but it's not causing Bond any problems.
Penn is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Bond not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Penn is looking for a triangle but Bond pushes his legs off easily.

Bond stopping the sweep attempt from Penn.

Bond decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Penn doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bond finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Bond shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Bond was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Bond content just to control the position here.
Penn is working to get back to half guard.

Bond sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Penn is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Bond controlling the pace for now.
Penn swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Penn throwing hammer fists to the chest of Bond. What's that going to do exactly?

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Bond gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Bond has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Penn misses with a takedown attempt

and Bond counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Penn is looking for a sweep. Bond is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Penn tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Penn landing a few short strikes.
Penn misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Penn looking for submissions off his back.
Bond blocks the strikes from Penn.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bond is keen to just control but Penn is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dond Bond showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Bond's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Bond closes the distance and pushes Penn back into the cage.

Bond manages to pull guard.
Penn is looking to work some ground and pound but Bond has wrist control.
Penn looking to pass the guard.
Bond wants to stand but Penn is controlling the position.
Penn throws a strike but Bond rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Penn trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A head kick from Bond lands but Penn takes it in his stride.
Bond throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Penn's head.

Bond closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Penn is trying to get back to half guard.
Penn manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Bond regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Penn.
Penn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jay Dee Penn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bond preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Penn throws and elbow that misses. Bond uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Penn's guard. Nice move by Bond!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bond gets to mount! Penn was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Bond controlling the position easily from mount.
Penn tries to reverse the position but Bond maintains control.
Penn is working hard here to advance position.
Dond Bond is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Dond Bond has got the better of the ground game so far.
Penn swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dond Bond comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bond has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
