PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaun Gaines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that David West has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily David West seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West looks to throw the jab but Gaines is out of range.
Gaines throws a series of punches but West avoids them all with ease.

West lands a big right hand that sends Gaines crashing to the mat! West stays standing though and waves Gaines back to his feet!

Gaines is rocked!
West tries to close the distance and clinch but Gaines swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gaines is still on wobbly legs! Can West finish him?
West misses with a few strikes there.
Gaines seems to have recovered his senses.
West wants to clinch.
West throws a leg kick but Gaines checks it.
Some wild striking there from West.
West misses with a hook. Gaines ducked under it nicely.

West lands a big right hand that sends Gaines crashing to the mat! West stays standing though and waves Gaines back to his feet!

and Gaines counters with a takedown into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

West tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gaines wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Gaines is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down West's shoulder. That is not cool.

Gaines decides to stand up, so the ref orders West to his feet.
West throws a half hearted mid kick.
West fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Gaines looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Gaines looks gassed!
West throws a right and a left that Gaines avoids nicely.
West throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gaines.
West throws a sloppy head kick

and Gaines decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in West's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
West wants to sweep here but Gaines controlling him for the moment.
West on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if West tries to get out of the position.
Gaines wants to control from the top but West keeps moving.

West working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gaines doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gaines manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
West doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice jab there from West.
West clinches but Gaines breaks the clinch
and Gaines counters with a left and a right that stings West.
West throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
West throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Gaines counters with a three punch combo that has West backing up. West nods at Gaines to acknowledge the strikes.
Gaines slips a jab and a cross from West.
West swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gaines gets cracked with a nice right hand there by West.

West throws a right and a left that Gaines avoids nicely.

West tries to clinch up.
David West is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
West misses with the combination.
Gaines takes a jab right on the kisser.

West cracks Gaines with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. West has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Gaines to stand back up!
Gaines shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says West as he avoids it easily.
West connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Gaines tumbling to the canvas! West pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Gaines was done - good stoppage!
