The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnsso feints and as Freud raises his hands in defense, Johnsso changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Johnsso drops back, looking for a kneebar! Freud looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Freud looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Freud! Johnsso takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Freud will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Freud grinds an elbow into Johnsso's temple. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnsso is not content to let Freud control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Freud is staying tight to Johnsso's torso, preventing him from escaping. Freud is working Johnsso over with some ground and pound from side control. Johnsso tries to buck Freud off but Freud is having none of it. Johnsso is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Freud lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Johnsso down.
Johnsso is working to avoid the ground and pound but Freud connects with a decent elbow. Freud has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Freud working the body and head with strikes. Freud just content to control the position. Freud trying to control the position but Johnsso is working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Freud works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Freud working the head and body with strikes. Johnsso is looking for a sweep. Freud creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Check out the look on Freud's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
