PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between reece kahn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Shamrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shamrock has chosen Thunder strike as his entrance music. Chuck Shamrock is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, reece kahn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Chuck Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Sam Margolis and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
kahn wants to clinch up but Shamrock keeps it at a distance.
kahn is looking to clinch but Shamrock is avoiding it.
kahn could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
kahn shoots in for a double leg but Shamrock sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
kahn pulls out of a head kick attempt.

kahn instigates a clinch.

kahn has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Shamrock uses from the top position.
kahn looking for a sweep. Not yet kahn, not yet.
Shamrock pushing down on kahn's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Shamrock is thwarting kahn's attempts to control the position.
Shamrock is trying to control. kahn wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Shamrock is pressing down on kahn's thigh, looking to free his foot. kahn is holding on for now.
Shamrock is nestled in close to kahn, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Shamrock wants to take a breather but kahn is having none of it.

Shamrock is taking a breather. kahn says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Shamrock throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
kahn is trying to stand back up but Shamrock is controlling him
Shamrock has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

kahn has taken the fight to the clinch.
kahn jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Shamrock walks away with a smile on his face. kahn gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
kahn tries to clinch up but Shamrock circles away and keeps his distance.
Shamrock has his takedown stuffed

and kahn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

kahn trying to control the position from guard on top but Shamrock is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shamrock is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

kahn stands up from guard. Let's bang!

kahn rushes Shamrock and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

kahn has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Shamrock avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for reece kahn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
kahn tries to pull guard but Shamrock holds him up against the cage and eventually kahn drops back down to his feet.
kahn fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Shamrock goes for a takedown attempt but kahn pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
reece kahn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shamrock closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Shamrock content to control rather than advance.

kahn wants to improve his position but Shamrock is controlling well.
Shamrock with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Shamrock decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Shamrock tries to keep at a distance but kahn has taken the fight into the clinch.
Shamrock has kahn pressed against the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Shamrock.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that reece kahn will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Shamrock tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but kahn paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Shamrock wants to control but kahn is having none of it.
kahn looking to control but Shamrock is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Shamrock keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
kahn wants to control but Shamrock is keeping him busy.

kahn is really struggling to control Shamrock but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Shamrock is pressing down on kahn's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Shamrock not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

kahn slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
kahn avoids the strikes from the bottom by Shamrock.
Shamrock tries to buck kahn off but kahn is having none of it.
kahn wants to control but Shamrock is keeping him busy.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

kahn stands up and beckons Shamrock to his feet.
kahn throws a head kick that misses.

Shamrock bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
kahn taking punishment in the form of punches.
Shamrock landing strikes.
Shamrock looks up at the clock and then as kahn takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Shamrock smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
kahn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shamrock wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Chuck Shamrock has got the better of the ground game so far.
kahn is working to avoid the ground and pound but Shamrock connects with a decent elbow.

Shamrock in side control, just content to control the action for now.

kahn is looking for a sweep.
Shamrock in side control lands a decent elbow.
Shamrock lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
You can see the frustration on kahn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Shamrock is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but kahn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Shamrock goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, kahn has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Shamrock but great work by kahn.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
kahn is looking to take a break and control but Shamrock is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

kahn wants to control but Shamrock is keeping him busy.
Shamrock is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Shamrock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Shamrock is trying to drag kahn to the mat but kahn just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

kahn manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shamrock manages to get himself to full guard.

kahn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

kahn has taken the fight to the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Shamrock.

Shamrock is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. kahn can't fight it off and eventually Shamrock manages to take the fight to the floor. kahn looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Shamrock drops back, looking for a kneebar! kahn looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. kahn looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from kahn!

Shamrock is looking for a sweep.

kahn stands up.
kahn throws a nice outside leg kick.
kahn wants to clinch

and Shamrock decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in kahn's guard.

kahn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shamrock is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

kahn wants to stand and escape but Shamrock is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to reece kahn.
I think kahn has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
