0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Will David! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! David misses with a low kick as Hancho jumps back. Hancho misses with a takedown attempt - David sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. David lands a two punch combo.

Hancho is breathing heavily. David stands up from Hancho's guard - David perhaps looking for a knockout. David has taken the fight to the clinch.

Hancho makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hancho. Hancho wants to sweep here but David controlling him for the moment. Hancho manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Hancho unloading with bombs! David takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Hancho cracks David with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Hancho pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. The referee warns David that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
David's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Hancho in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

David did well to prevent Hancho getting side control. David regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Hancho. David is looking to stand up but Hancho isn't so interested in that idea. Hancho throws and elbow that misses. David uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hancho's guard. Nice move by David! Hancho manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

David wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Hancho lands a heavy elbow. Hancho working away from the top, dropping strikes. Hancho with the ground and pound from mount. Hancho knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for David on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. David thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. David tries to land a sweep but no joy. Hancho sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed David's guard. Hancho looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks David with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Hancho is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Hancho has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hancho is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David throws a right hand that Hancho ducks under and follows up with a left that Hancho also avoids with ease. Hancho shoots and misses and David counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Hancho doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling David to counter with a crisp jab. David goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Hancho shoots and misses so David counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Hancho. That's going to take a lot out of him. David is stalling in the full guard. David wants to get up but he can't break Hancho's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Hancho wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Mike Hancho overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hancho looking for a sweep. Not yet Hancho, not yet. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Hancho has a closed guard, preventing David from standing up. Hancho pulls David in close to prevent any damage.

Hancho slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Hancho tries to land a sweep but no joy. Hancho pulls David in close to his closed guard and prevents David from doing any damage or advancing position. David won't allow Hancho to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. David looking to pass the guard. David would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. David is fighting to break Hancho's control of his arms but Hancho is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. David won't allow Hancho to sweep him here. David passes easily into side control. Nice work. Hancho holds on to David's head and controls the position momentarily. Hancho is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. David stands up and we're back to a striking position. David misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hancho tries for a takedown but David circles away easily and David counters with a one-two to the body. Hancho has his takedown stuffed and David counters with a straight right hand. David throws a right and a left that both miss. Hancho shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and David counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hancho!
That's four minutes gone in the round. David wants to control the pace but Hancho is squirming around nicely. David misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Hancho is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. David trying to control but he's not successful this time. David looking to finish with strikes here!
