Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Sorensen!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas throws a right hand that Sorensen ducks under and follows up with a left that Sorensen also avoids with ease.
Thomas tries a head kick but it misses.
Thomas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thomas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sorensen as he jumps to the side.
Sorensen wants to land a leg kick but Thomas is out of range.
Thomas tries to clinch but Sorensen is having none of it.
Thomas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Thomas.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Thomas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Thomas is breathing heavily.
Thomas misses with a jab, cross combination.
Thomas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Sorensen has closed the distance and engaged Thomas in a clinch.

Thomas is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sorensen is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Thomas to the mat. Thomas regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Thomas will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sorensen trying to control the position from guard on top but Thomas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sorensen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Thomas looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sorensen is one step ahead there.
Thomas is looking to stand up but Sorensen isn't so interested in that idea.

Sorensen drops back looking for a leg! Thomas is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Thomas manages to kick Sorensen off! Sorensen jumps back into Thomas's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Sorensen looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Thomas!
Thomas can't escape the position.

Sorensen wants to control the pace but Thomas is squirming around nicely.
Sorensen pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Thomas is trying to escape the mount.

Sorensen has control of Thomas's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Thomas regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Thomas can't escape the position.
Thomas is working hard here to advance position.
Sorensen won't let Thomas get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Thomas is looking to get to half guard.
Thomas tries to hold on but Sorensen pushes him away.
Sorensen content just to control the position here.

Sorensen is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Thomas can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Sorensen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Thomas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Sorensen wants to take a breather but Thomas is having none of it.
Sorensen works his foot free and advances to mount.

Sorensen jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Thomas manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Sorensen advances to mount.

Sorensen looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sorensen working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Thomas turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Sorensen off and cradles Thomas's limp body as Sorensen celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Jon Sorensen!
