PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryszard Dostojewski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Appleby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryszard Dostojewski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jake Appleby!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Appleby throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dostojewski throws a head kick but Appleby moves out of range.

Appleby shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Appleby was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Appleby tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
BOOM! Appleby connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Appleby wants to control but instead Dostojewski manages to regain half guard.
Dostojewski tries to roll over but Appleby keeps him under control.
Appleby really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dostojewski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
I looks like Appleby might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Dostojewski is trying to control but can't.
Appleby seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dostojewski does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Appleby is working for a kimura but Dostojewski is defending it quite comfortably.
Dostojewski regains full guard. Nicely done.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Appleby is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Dostojewski has Appleby pulled in close to control his posture.
Appleby is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Dostojewski is looking to stand up but Appleby isn't so interested in that idea.

Appleby throws a big right hand that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dostojewski is looking to stand up but Appleby isn't so interested in that idea.
Dostojewski controls Appleby momentarily but Appleby frees himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Appleby closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Dostojewski did well to prevent Appleby getting side control.
Appleby passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Dostojewski!

Dostojewski tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Appleby sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Appleby manages to capitalize on a mistake by Dostojewski to take his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Appleby dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Appleby shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Appleby is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Appleby stands and steps away. Dostojewski gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Dostojewski tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Appleby stopping the sweep attempt from Dostojewski.

Appleby pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dostojewski is keeping the position for now.
Dostojewski is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Let's hope that Appleby has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Dostojewski is trying to get back to full guard.

Appleby moves into full mount! Dostojewski won't be happy about that!

Appleby avoids the attempt from Dostojewski to control.

Appleby connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Appleby lands a big shot there that rocks Dostojewski but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Appleby postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Dostojewski bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Appleby and the fight is over!
