Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, JJ Big! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jefrey Van Bone! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Big changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Van Bone tries to avoid it but Big manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Van Bone to the ground. Van Bone escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Big tries to score a power double leg takedown but Van Bone sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Big somewhat. Van Bone with a lazy takedown attempt and Big counters with a single leg into guard. Van Bone didn't expect that. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Van Bone working for a triangle but Big defends it easily.
Big pushing down on Van Bone's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Van Bone looking for submissions off his back. Van Bone tries to roll over but Big keeps him under control. Big wants to pass to mount but Van Bone is defending the position. Big is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Van Bone doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Big. Van Bone looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Van Bone is trying to get back to full guard. Big is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Big is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Van Bone! Big looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Big is going olschool here, as he tries to force Van Bone to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Van Bone shrugs it off. Big prevents Van Bone from getting the reversal. Big working for a submission but Van Bone is keeping him at bay. Big is breathing heavily. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Van Bone is in all sorts of trouble here.
Van Bone gets back to half guard. Big is working for a kimura but Van Bone is defending it quite comfortably.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Van Bone looking for submissions off his back. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Van Bone looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Big frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Big takes Van Bone's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Van Bone is in trouble. Big is persistently looking for the submission but Van Bone is defending it well.
Van Bone rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
