Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ash Tray! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rocko Graney! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Paulo Santos and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tray tries to clinch but Graney moves out of range. Nice takedown defense from Graney. No joy for Tray on that attempt. Tray tries for a takedown but Graney sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Graney is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Tray. Tray has closed the distance and engaged Graney in a clinch.
Graney is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Tray can't fight it off and eventually Graney manages to take the fight to the floor. Tray looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Graney is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Tray wants to sweep but no luck. Tray keeping full guard, as Graney tries to pass. Graney drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Graney jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Graney wants to pass the guard but Tray is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tray wants to stand and escape but Graney is having none of it.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Graney shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tray as he avoids it easily. Tray doesn't succeed with the takedown and Graney counters with a shoot takedown. Tray fights it but they end up in guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ash Tray. That's going to take a lot out of him. Tray utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Graney is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Graney looks gassed! Graney passes easily into side control. Nice work. Graney swings around for an armbar but Tray sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Graney's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tray trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Graney is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Graney is looking for a triangle but Tray pushes his legs off easily.
Graney manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Graney landing strikes from the mount and Tray is in trouble! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Graney is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Tray has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Graney has hold of Tray's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Tray manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Graney looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Tray keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Graney goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Tray turns into him and now he's in Graney's guard.
Graney manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tray manages to get himself to full guard.
Graney passes Tray's left leg - he's now in half guard. Tray knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Graney on the ground. Graney prevents Tray from improving his position. Graney is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Tray has managed to free his arm - good work. Graney is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tray defends it well. Graney trying to mount his opponent but Tray defends it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Graney scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Graney is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Graney is looking for a kimura here.
Graney is trying to control the action in half guard but Tray is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Graney is looking for a kimura here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Graney in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Tray tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Graney!
