Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Percy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, UBC Tan!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Percy moves in looking to clinch but Tan pushes him off.

Percy scores a takedown into full mount!
Tan is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tan can do anything to dispel that myth.

Percy looking to secure an arm triangle but Tan defends it well.

Percy with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Percy throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Percy wants to finish this one by submission but Tan is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Percy.
Percy scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Percy punching from mount but Tan doing a good job of avoiding damage.

Tan holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Percy tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Percy is breathing heavily.
Percy thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Tan trying desperately to get to his feet.

Percy looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Percy won't let Tan get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Percy has control of Tan's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Tan regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Tan wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tan is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Percy lands a big elbow.

Percy looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Tan is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Percy is going olschool here, as he tries to force Tan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Tan shrugs it off.

Poor strikes thrown by Percy there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Tan really wants to buck Percy off and get back to his feet.
Tan takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Percy raining down shots from the mount!

Percy is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Tan is surviving well by controlling Percy's body position as best he can.
Percy unloads with some shots from mount but Tan bucks and avoids them well.

You get the feeling that Tan really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Percy looking to finish Tan with some ground and pound. This is bad for Tan!

Percy working for a submission but Tan is keeping him at bay.

Percy looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The referee warns Tan that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Tan scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Percy moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Tan misses with a double jab.
Percy fails with the takedown.
Tan lands a body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Percy looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Tan lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Tan lands a nice leg kick that just misses Percy's sensitive parts.
Good standup being displayed there by Tan as he connects with a hook.
Percy doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tan closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Tan scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Tan lands an overhand right.
Percy fails with a takedown attempt.
Percy needs to keep his hands up - Tan had a free shot at his head there.
Tan lands a front kick.
Tan connects with a high kick.
Percy takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Tan lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
UBC Tan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Percy shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Percy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tan tries to bum rush Percy with a series of wild strikes but Percy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Tan moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Percy avoids the head kick by Tan.
Tan goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Tan connects with a crisp jab.
Tan throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
John Percy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Tan displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Percy showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Tan.

Tan misses with a series of wild punches.
Percy fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Tan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Tan's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Tan duly obliges.
Percy shoots for a double leg takedown but Tan sprawls well. He's pushed Percy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tan lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Tan ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
UBC Tan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tan slips a jab from Percy.
Tan throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Percy on the side of the head.
Tan looks to land a combination. Percy sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Tan throws a front kick that sends Percy stumbling back into the cage.
A left and a right from Tan both land. Nice combination.
Percy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Percy somewhat.
Tan misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Percy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tan's guard.
Percy stops Tan from standing up.

Percy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Tan wants to stand but Percy is controlling the position.
Tan has momentary wrist control but Percy slips an elbow through the middle.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Percy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Percy thows a big elbow that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

UBC Tan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Percy drops his hands momentarily and Tan takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
A cross from Tan lands.
Percy blocks a head kick by Tan.
Tan lands with a kick to the temple. Percy shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Tan lands a slapping body shot.
UBC Tan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Percy takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Percy avoids the head kick by Tan.
Tan lands a with a good body shot.
Tan keeps the fight on the outside.
Percy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Percy somewhat.
Tan smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Percy moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Tan connects with a body shot.
A combination from Tan does no damage.
Tan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
A head kick by Percy misses
and Tan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Percy is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Tan with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Tan misses with a low kick as Percy jumps back.
Percy will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Tan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Percy moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Tan's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Tan duly obliges.
Tan tries to work over Percy's front leg with a kick but Percy checks it.
Tan scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tan punishes Percy's body with a nice straight punch.

Percy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Percy throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tan wants to get back to his feet.

Percy is working for a guillotine from mount but Tan frees his head quite easily.

Percy has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Tan! Can he survive? No! He's out! Percy gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
