Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fredrick Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fredrick Williams!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Williams.
Cortez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Cortez frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Williams can't escape the position.
Williams really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cortez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Williams tries to lock up and control but Cortez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Cortez throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Williams is not content to let Cortez control the position.

Cortez is taking a breather. Williams says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Williams is trying to maintain the position but Cortez is very close to passing his half guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
