Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Josh Barnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Chavez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julio Chavez! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barnes looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Chavez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barnes throws a strike but Chavez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Barnes wriggles free and stands up. Chavez is looking to clinch. Chavez clinches up against the cage. Barnes presses Chavez against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Barnes is trying to trip Chavez. He has hold of a leg but Chavez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Barnes persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Barnes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chavez is keeping the position for now. Barnes is looking to work some ground and pound but Chavez has wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chavez keeping moving, preventing Barnes from controlling successfully. Chavez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Barnes. Barnes passes Chavez's left leg - he's now in half guard. Barnes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Chavez wants to control but Barnes is keeping busy and won't allow it. Barnes is trying to control the action in half guard but Chavez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Chavez moves into full guard.
Barnes lands a couple of digs. Barnes trying to control the position from guard on top but Chavez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Barnes is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chavez wants to hit a switch here but Barnes passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Chavez there! Chavez keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Barnes lands with some strikes. Barnes has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Chavez's face.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Chavez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Barnes looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Barnes controlling the pace for now. Chavez tries to reverse the position but Barnes maintains control. Chavez is squirming around, avoiding Barnes's attempts to control the action. Barnes lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Chavez hang on?
It looks like Julio Chavez has been cut. Barnes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barnes unloading with bombs! Barnes scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Chavez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Barnes trying to control but Chavez is having none of it. Chavez can't escape the position.
Chavez looks gassed! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Barnes working away from the top, dropping strikes. Barnes with a couple of short strikes. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Barnes has control of Chavez's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Chavez regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Josh Barnes dominated that round. The cut man is working on Julio Chavez's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Barnes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chavez sprawls well. Chavez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Barnes gets slowly back to his feet. Chavez tries to close the distance and clinch but Barnes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Barnes doesn't manage to clinch there - Chavez circles away.
Barnes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Barnes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chavez's waist but Chavez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Barnes off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Barnes. That's going to take a lot out of him. No luck for Chavez with that takedown attempt. Chavez doesn't succeed with the takedown and Barnes counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chavez wants to control but Barnes is keeping busy.
Chavez is refusing to be controlled, as Barnes sits in half guard. Barnes not landing any meaningful shots this time. Barnes seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Chavez is looking to control Barnes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chavez avoid being mounted? Barnes lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Chavez avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Barnes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Barnes throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Chavez with a poor takedown and Barnes counters by clinching up. Barnes throws a punch but it's blocked by Chavez. Chavez tries to pull guard but Barnes won't allow it.

Barnes tightens his grip and picks Chavez up, before dumping him to the ground. Chavez manages to land in guard. Chavez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Chavez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Barnes wants to control from the top but Chavez keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barnes throws a big right hand that misses. Barnes trying to control the position from guard on top but Chavez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Barnes postures up in Chavez's guard and throws a big left but Chavez blocks it. Chavez trying to control the position.
Barnes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Chavez gets caught flat footed, as Barnes shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Chavez keeping full guard, as Barnes tries to pass.

Chavez Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Barnes's back instead. Barnes has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Chavez trying to control momentarily.
Barnes controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Barnes staying busy and making it hard for Chavez to control. Barnes defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Barnes is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Chavez tries to keep control of the position but Barnes is staying busy. Josh Barnes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Barnes trying to get back to his feet but Chavez is in full control for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barnes covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Barnes is trying to get back to his feet but Chavez has full control of the position and if anything, Barnes has just worked his way into a worse spot. Josh Barnes is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Chavez biding his time, controlling Barnes. Barnes is trying to stand back up. Chavez somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Barnes looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Chavez's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Chavez throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch. Chavez patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Barnes trying to get back to his feet but Chavez is in full control for now.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Josh Barnes. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Barnes, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
