PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Klinger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harald Emil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Klinger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harald Emil!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emil tries to clinch but Klinger moves out of range.
Klinger moves out of range of the strikes.
Emil is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Klinger.
Emil throws a right and a left that both miss.
Emil wants to clinch up but Klinger keeps it at a distance.

Klinger bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Emil is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Emil regains half guard.
Emil is looking for a sweep. Klinger is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Emil gets full guard.
Klinger is breathing heavily.
Klinger stopping the sweep attempt from Emil.
Klinger prevents Emil from getting back to his feet.
Klinger trying to control but Emil is working from the bottom.

Emil throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Emil keeping moving, preventing Klinger from controlling successfully.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Emil tries to keep at a distance but Klinger has taken the fight into the clinch.
Emil working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
A looping hook to the body misses from Klinger. Emil does a little dance to reset his feet.
Harald Emil seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Klinger slips a jab and a cross from Emil.
Klinger throws a right and a left that both miss.

Emil drags the fight down to the ground.
Emil wants to sweep here but Klinger controlling him for the moment.

Emil bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Klinger's guard.
Emil trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Emil tries to stand but Klinger is controlling from the bottom.
Klinger manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Klinger trying to control but Emil is having none of it.

Emil is squirming around, avoiding Klinger's attempts to control the action.
Klinger working the ground and pound effectively.
Emil slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Klinger performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Klinger prevents Emil from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Emil trying to get back to full guard but Klinger takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Emil is working to get back to half guard.
Emil regains half guard.

Klinger stands up and beckons Emil to join him on the feet.
Emil tries to clinch but Klinger moves out of range.
Emil leaves Klinger with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Klinger will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Klinger blocks a head kick by Emil.
Klinger swats away the attempt to clinch by Emil.
Emil tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Klinger counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Emil jumps guard.
Emil wants to stand but Klinger is controlling the position.

Emil is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Klinger is aware though and is defending well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Emil has momentary wrist control but Klinger slips an elbow through the middle.

Klinger stands up from Emil's guard - Klinger perhaps looking for a knockout.
Klinger shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Emil sprawls well. Emil wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Klinger gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Emil throws a nice looking combination but Klinger bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Klinger.
Klinger drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Klinger stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Klinger wants it to stay on the feet.
Emil misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Klinger counters with a shoot takedown. Emil fights it but they end up in guard.

Emil tries to get to full guard but Klinger has control of the leg.
Emil wants to control but Klinger is keeping busy.

Klinger trying to control from half guard but Emil is working away.
Klinger working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Emil gets full guard.
Emil is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Klinger is controlling him.
Klinger wants to stand but Emil has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Klinger won't allow Emil to get back to his feet.
Klinger wants to control from the top but Emil keeps moving.

Emil pushes Klinger off and scrambles back to his feet.

Emil tries to clinch up

and Klinger counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Klinger advances to half guard.
Emil moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Emil lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Klinger!

Emil has hold of Klinger's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Klinger manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Emil tries to control but Klinger wriggling away.

Emil looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Klinger wants to hold on but Emil pushes him away.
Emil lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Emil prevents Klinger from getting the reversal.
A nice elbow there by Emil.
Klinger is in all sorts of trouble here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Klinger dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Emil tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Klinger paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Klinger counters with a shoot takedown. Emil fights it but they end up in guard.
Klinger won't allow Emil to sweep him here.

Emil has his foot on Klinger's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Klinger works his way back into a safe position though.

Klinger decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Emil has Klinger up against the cage in a clinch.
Emil fails to pull guard.
Klinger has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Emil is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Klinger tries to break free but Emil pushes him back against the cage.

Emil decides to pull guard.
Emil keeping moving, preventing Klinger from controlling successfully.
Klinger lands a couple of elbows.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Klinger won't allow Emil to sweep him here.

Emil is looking for a triangle but Klinger pushes his legs off easily.
Emil looking to hit a scissor sweep but Klinger is one step ahead there.
Klinger trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Emil keeping moving, preventing Klinger from controlling successfully.
Klinger is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Emil is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Emil looks for a takedown but Klinger sprawls well.

Emil closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Klinger manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Klinger on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Klinger is trying to control but can't.
Emil scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Emil seems to be working for a kimura but Klinger defends the submission attempt.

Emil darts in and clinches Klinger up against the cage.
Klinger has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Emil avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Emil tries for a takedown but Klinger manages to get underhooks.
James Klinger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Harald Emil.
Klinger wants a takedown but no success here.

Emil is trying to drag Klinger to the mat but Klinger just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Emil digs a right hand into Klinger's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Klinger's gas tank.

Harald Emil has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James Klinger is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Emil is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Klinger is aware though and is defending well.

Emil has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Klinger can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Harald Emil.
I think Klinger has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
