PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andy Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Masters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stone comes into the arena with I stand alone - Godsmack blaring out of the sound system. The key to victory for Andy Stone has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andy Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ken Masters!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Hirohito Nitta and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone throws a right and a left that both miss.
Masters uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Stone.
Andy Stone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stone throws a hook but Masters avoids it easily.
Stone fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Stone is looking to slow Masters down with leg kicks.
A combination from Stone does no damage.
Stone throws a big shot that misses.

Stone gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Masters to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Masters prevents Stone from getting back to his feet.

Masters wants to pass the guard but Stone is keeping the position.
Stone is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Masters wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
Masters pushing down on Stone's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Stone wants to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Masters looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Masters showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Stone.
Masters shoots in looking for a takedown. Stone tries to sprawl out of it but Masters keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stone manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stone misses with a body kick.
Stone throws a big shot that misses.
A head kick misses from Stone.
Masters dodges the punch combination from Stone.
Stone looks for the body kick but Masters saw that one coming.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Masters fails with a takedown attempt.
Andy Stone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Masters.
Stone pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Masters fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stone sprawls well initially but Masters persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Masters trying to control the action but Stone is working from the bottom.
Masters tries to pass to full mount but Stone defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Masters dominated that round.
That's time! Stone's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Stone lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Ken Masters has been cut.
Stone motions for Masters to come forward. Stone throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Stone misses with an uppercut. Masters saw that one coming.
Stone throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Stone misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Stone throws a body punch but Masters moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stone cracks Masters with a right hand to the side of the head.

Masters feints and as Stone raises his hands in defense, Masters changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Masters tries to free his leg and advance position but Stone is retaining full guard.
Masters passes Stone's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Masters wants to advance to full mount but Stone doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Masters won't allow Stone to get back to his feet.
Stone keeping moving, preventing Masters from controlling successfully.
Masters wants to pass the guard but Stone is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stone wants to stand but Masters is controlling the position.
Masters trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Stone manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Stone has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Masters is proving hard to escape from.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stone misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stone swinging wilding here.
Masters has a takedown stuffed.

Masters throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stone was covering up waiting for the punch and Masters finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Masters sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stone's guard.
Stone pushes Masters off looking to stand but Masters dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stone is in trouble now - Masters has advanced to mount!
Masters won't let Stone get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Masters is working for a guillotine from mount but Stone frees his head quite easily.

Masters goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Stone turns into him and now he's in Masters's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ken Masters will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Ken Masters's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Masters avoids the body shot from Stone.
Masters shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stone as he avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stone misses with a wild body shot.
Stone misses with the combination.

Masters avoids the head kick by Stone.
Stone scores with a decent looking hook.
Masters takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


Masters is rocked!
Stone throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Masters.
Stone throws a nice looking combination but Masters bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Stone misses with the combination.
Nice defenses there by Masters.
Stone rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Masters moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Stone swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Stone fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Stone misses with a looping left.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stone misses with a low kick.
Stone throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Stone stuffs the takedown.
Stone throws a right and a left that Masters avoids nicely.

Masters bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Masters is trying to get an arm triangle but Stone is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stone wants to get back to his feet but Masters drags him back down.

Masters goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Stone has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Masters but great work by Stone.
Masters takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Stone decides to stand back up.
Stone's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Stone duly obliges.
Masters is trying hard to land a takedown here. Stone sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Andy Stone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Masters.
Stone fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Stone misses with a jab, cross combination.

And that's the end of the fight!
Andy Stone showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Masters has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
