PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Pyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Hardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hardy comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I will survive kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Paul Hardy acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roger Pyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paul Hardy!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pyle feints and as Hardy raises his hands in defense, Pyle changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Pyle missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Pyle working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hardy keeping full guard, as Pyle tries to pass.
Pyle lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hardy wants to sweep here but Pyle controlling him for the moment.
Pyle works over Hardy with some ground and pound from guard.
Pyle postures up in Hardy's guard and throws a big left but Hardy blocks it.
Pyle postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Pyle tries to free his leg and advance position but Hardy is retaining full guard.
Pyle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pyle working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hardy's head.

Pyle postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pyle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hardy swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pyle loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Pyle postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Pyle drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Hardy dives on top into guard.
Hardy trying to control but Pyle is working from the bottom.
Hardy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hardy scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Pyle working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hardy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hardy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pyle is breathing heavily.

Pyle has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hardy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hardy is looking to stand up but Pyle won't let him.
Hardy wants to control from the top but Pyle keeps moving.
Hardy trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Hardy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Hardy chips away with some ground and pound.
Hardy trying to control but Pyle is working from the bottom.

Pyle utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pyle ducks right into an uppercut from Hardy.
Pyle shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hardy but Hardy pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Pyle changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hardy tries to avoid it but Pyle manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hardy to the ground. Hardy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hardy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pyle but Pyle pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Pyle shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hardy counters with a series of strikes. Pyle will be more careful next time no doubt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Roger Pyle will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hardy has his takedown stuffed

so Pyle counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pyle distracts Hardy with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Pyle lands a couple of digs.
Pyle trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hardy wants to sweep but no luck.
Pyle is working Hardy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hardy working a defensive guard but Pyle manages to pass into side control anyway.
Pyle in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Pyle throwing strikes but Hardy manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Hardy in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Hardy taking a break here but Pyle is having none of it and regains half guard.
Hardy tries to pass to full mount but Pyle defends it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hardy is looking to take a break and control but Pyle is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Roger Pyle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pyle moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Hardy trying to control but Pyle is working from the bottom.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hardy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pyle works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hardy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pyle swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Pyle takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

and Hardy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pyle's guard.
Pyle throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Hardy content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Hardy decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pyle, up you get!

and Hardy counters with a straight right hand.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hardy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roger Pyle. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pyle goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hardy has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Pyle but great work by Hardy.
Hardy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pyle. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hardy wants to stand but Pyle is controlling his arm.

A lull in the action here as Hardy stalls from top position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Hardy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pyle is proving hard to escape from.
Paul Hardy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Pyle lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hardy!
Hardy tries to lock up and control but Pyle gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
A nice elbow there by Pyle.
Hardy is desperately trying to improve his position but Pyle has a good base and remains in mount.
Pyle is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hardy can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Hardy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pyle has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
