The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suvanto with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch but Suvanto swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hughes wants to clinch up but Suvanto keeps it at a distance.
Suvanto takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Suvanto uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hughes.
Hughes doesn't manage to clinch there - Suvanto circles away.
Suvanto dives in and grabs Hughes's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hughes pushes down on Suvanto's head and hops out.
Hughes avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hughes bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Hughes gets caught flat footed, as Suvanto shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hughes tries to clinch but Suvanto moves out of range.

Suvanto closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hughes to the mat! Hughes manages to get full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Suvanto accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Suvanto is looking to work some ground and pound but Hughes has wrist control.
Hughes wants to stand and escape but Suvanto is having none of it.

Suvanto has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hughes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Suvanto.

Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Suvanto swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Suvanto shoots in for a takedown but Hughes shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Suvanto throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Hughes on the side of the head.

Suvanto throws a chopping leg kick but Hughes manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Suvanto swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Suvanto keeps the fight on the outside.
Suvanto scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Suvanto shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Suvanto swings for the body but Hughes moves out of range.

Suvanto moves into the clinch successfully.
Suvanto blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Hughes swings wildly with an uppercut but Suvanto uses good head movement to avoid it.

Suvanto is trying to maintain a safe position but Hughes gets an underhook and turns Suvanto into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hughes lands an uppercut.
Suvanto tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hughes drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Suvanto gets control of Hughes's arms and successfully pulls guard. Suvanto will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Hughes throws a strike but Suvanto rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hughes is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Suvanto has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Suvanto takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Hughes is breathing heavily.
Suvanto looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hughes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Hughes looks like he's trying to stand up.

Suvanto is looking for a kimura but Hughes is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Suvanto to get the leverage.

Suvanto has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Hughes defend it? Suvanto steps over the head and cranks it - Hughes is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Suvanto!
