PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tony McCann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesus Perqelez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Perqelez has chosen cool caribbean beats as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jesus Perqelez was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jesus Perqelez!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Ivan Kurochkin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCann defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Perqelez.
McCann misses with a series of wild punches.
Perqelez tries to score a power double leg takedown but McCann sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Perqelez somewhat.

Perqelez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
McCann wants to get back to striking at distance but Perqelez won't allow it.

Perqelez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Perqelez moves in looking to clinch but McCann pushes him off.
McCann looks to land a combination but Perqelez avoids it well.
Perqelez takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Perqelez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from McCann.
McCann misses with a two punch combination.
McCann fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
McCann thows a left - swing and a miss!

Perqelez gets the takedown into side control.
An elbow from Perqelez crashes against the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perqelez advances to mount.
McCann tries to reverse the position but Perqelez maintains control.
Perqelez controlling his opponent.
Perqelez tries to control but McCann wriggling away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCann wants to control but Perqelez is having none of it.
McCann has given up his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Perqelez working for the choke.
Perqelez punches the canvas rather than the man.
Perqelez throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.

McCann defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
McCann wants to control from the top but Perqelez keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Perqelez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Perqelez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McCann doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McCann manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Perqelez looks gassed!
McCann passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Perqelez gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

McCann stands up from mount. Strange move.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Perqelez on the wrong end of a nice jab.
McCann looks to score with a jab to the body but Perqelez is just out of range.
Perqelez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Perqelez shoots in for a double leg but McCann sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Tony McCann has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jesus Perqelez.
Perqelez dives in and grabs McCann's left leg, looking for a takedown. McCann pushes down on Perqelez's head and hops out.
Perqelez walks into a stiff left hand from McCann.


Perqelez is rocked!
McCann lands with a big right hook that stumbles Perqelez - he's out on his feet here! McCann follows up with another monster hook that separates Perqelez from consciousness! Perqelez falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! McCann stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Tony McCann!
