PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Mac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mike Henry was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Charlie Mac!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Henry!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Radbod Blank and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Henry shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mac trying to control the position here.
Mac thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mac holds on and takes a little breather.
Henry trying to control the position from guard on top but Mac is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mac working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Henry.
Mac manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Henry manages to get himself to full guard.
Henry wants to sweep here but Mac controlling him for the moment.
Mac passes Henry's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Henry should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Mac passes the guard and advances to mount!
Henry tries to reverse the position but Mac maintains control.
Henry is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Mac goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Henry turns into him and now he's in Mac's guard.

Henry stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mac swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mac looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mac is pulling down on Henry's head. It's preventing any offense from Henry, at least for the moment.
Mac wants to sweep here but Henry controlling him for the moment.
Mac is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mac misses with a takedown
and Henry counters with a left to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mac tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Henry doesn't manage to clinch there - Mac circles away.
Henry shoots in for a takedown but Mac shows good takedown defense.
Henry shoots in looking for a takedown. Mac tries to sprawl out of it but Henry keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mac manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Charlie Mac has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Henry.
Mac is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Henry pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Mac drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Henry manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Mac slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mac stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Henry swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mac lands a couple of digs.
Mac postures up.
Mac postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mac is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Charlie Mac will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mac shoots in looking for a takedown. Henry tries to sprawl out of it but Mac keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Henry manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mac feints and as Henry raises his hands in defense, Mac changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mac is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Henry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mac scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Mac wants to control from the top but Henry keeps moving.
Henry is breathing heavily.
Mac lands a couple of elbows.
Mac's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Henry escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mac gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Mac connects with a couple of short punches.
Mac scoring with punches to the head and body.

Mac is working Henry over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Mac's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Mac seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Henry for as long as he can get away with.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Charlie Mac just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Mac shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Henry's guard.
Henry can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mac controls the pace.
Mac works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Henry wants to control but Mac is keeping busy.
Mac is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Charlie Mac overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mac has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mac is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Henry has hold of Mac's hands but Mac slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Charlie Mac just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charlie Mac dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Mac has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Henry looking to sit in guard and control but Mac gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mac is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mac connects with a couple of short punches.
Henry takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Henry can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mac controls the pace.

Mac connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Henry some visible discomfort.

Mac remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Mac lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mac is landing with some decent strikes but Henry is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Henry is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Mac pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Henry takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Mac with shots to the head and body - Henry looks very uncomfortable down there.

Henry wants to try and get back to his feet.

Mac wants to finish this one by submission but Henry is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mac.
Charlie Mac is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Henry is trying desperately to improve position.
Mike Henry has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mac, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
