PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Santon Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clay Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Murphy has chosen Chaney Can't Quite Riff Like Helmet's Page Hamilton - Evergreen Terrace as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Clay Murphy is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Clay Murphy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murphy fails to land the takedown.
Clay Murphy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Murphy is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lee knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Lee throws a big shot that misses.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jab by Lee.

Lee shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Lee was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Murphy can't escape the position.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Murphy closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lee to the mat! Lee manages to get full guard.

Murphy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lee's guard.

Lee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Murphy avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Murphy pushes down on Lee's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Lee manages to get to full guard.
Lee looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Lee is looking for a triangle here but Murphy uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Murphy looking to break Lee's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Lee remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Murphy will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lee tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Lee is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Murphy swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Lee is now in Murphy's guard. A big mistake from Murphy there, giving up the dominant position!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lee accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Murphy has his foot on Lee's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lee works his way back into a safe position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Murphy walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Lee checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

And that's the end of the fight!
Clay Murphy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Murphy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
