Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Ha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gichin Funakoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gichin Funakoshi!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Dillan Fox and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funakoshi throws a hook to the side of Ha's head but Ha sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Funakoshi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ha moves away.
Ha defending well as Funakoshi loads up on a big left hand.
Funakoshi scores with a jab. Ha acknowledges it with a nod of the head.


It looks like David Ha has been cut.
Funakoshi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Funakoshi shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Funakoshi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Funakoshi not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ha wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Funakoshi sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ha defending well though.

Funakoshi is nestled in close to Ha, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Ha slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Funakoshi throws a big right hand that misses.

Funakoshi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ha is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ha has escaped and now he's on top!

Ha drops back looking for a leg! Funakoshi is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Funakoshi manages to kick Ha off! Ha jumps back into Funakoshi's guard.
Funakoshi thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Ha wants to control from the top but Funakoshi keeps moving.

Funakoshi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Ha avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Funakoshi looks gassed!
Funakoshi tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Funakoshi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ha wants to control from the top but Funakoshi keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Funakoshi thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Funakoshi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Funakoshi keeping moving, preventing Ha from controlling successfully.
Funakoshi avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ha would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Ha loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Funakoshi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ha's guard.
Funakoshi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Funakoshi has gone for a leg lock! Ha slips out almost immediately though and dives into Funakoshi's guard.
Funakoshi wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gichin Funakoshi dominated that round.
The cut man is working on David Ha's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Funakoshi throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ha tries to clinch up but Funakoshi circles away and keeps his distance.
Funakoshi throws a series of strikes that have Ha backpedaling.
Funakoshi bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ha's head backwards.


Ha is rocked!
Funakoshi drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Ha's head, knocking him out cold! Funakoshi is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Gichin Funakoshi!
