Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peter Baba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Dukes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peter Baba could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Frank Dukes's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Baba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Dukes!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baba shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dukes pinned against the cage. Dukes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dukes gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Baba counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dukes won't be happy with that.
Baba wants to control but Dukes is keeping him busy.
Dukes tries to bench press Baba off him but Baba keeps the position.
Dukes is trying to control Baba's posture but Baba avoids it.
Dukes regains half guard.

Baba is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dukes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Baba.
Dukes is trying to maintain the position but Baba is very close to passing his half guard.

Baba is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Dukes pushes Baba off looking to stand but Baba dives back in and keeps control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Dukes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Dukes tries to clinch there but Baba circles away.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Baba drops back looking for a leg! Dukes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dukes manages to kick Baba off! Baba jumps back into Dukes's guard.
Baba has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Baba drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Baba jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Dukes pushes Baba off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Dukes lands a nice hook to Baba's body. Baba takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

and Baba decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dukes's guard.

Dukes wants to stand up but Baba is controlling him.

Baba postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dukes is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Baba, into his guard.

Dukes is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Baba keeping full guard, as Dukes tries to pass.
Dukes lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Dukes missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Dukes thows a big elbow that misses.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dukes throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Baba circles away from the clinch attempt.
Baba stuffs the takedown attempt from Dukes. Dukes gets slowly back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Baba has his takedown stuffed

and Dukes counters with a single leg into guard. Baba didn't expect that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Baba dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Dukes fails with an attempt to clinch.

Dukes shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Baba napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Baba is looking for a sweep.

Peter Baba overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dukes lands a nice forearm strike.

Dukes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Baba, who protects the arm well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Baba tries to get to full guard but Dukes has control of the leg.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dukes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Dukes trying to control the action but Baba is working from the bottom.

Baba is defending against the submission attempts here by Dukes.
Dukes sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Baba defending well though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Baba regains full guard. Nicely done.

Baba working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dukes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dukes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dukes lands a couple of elbows.

Baba escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dukes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dukes postures up and lands a big shot to Baba's brow.

Dukes loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Dukes drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Baba dives on top into guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Baba thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Frank Dukes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
