Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nick Taylor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vinicius Escobar! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Escobar. No joy for Taylor on that attempt. Escobar misses with a jab, cross combination.
Taylor fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Escobar throws a right and a left that both miss. Escobar fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Taylor dives in and grabs Escobar's left leg, looking for a takedown. Escobar pushes down on Taylor's head and hops out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Taylor. That's going to take a lot out of him. Taylor fails with a takedown attempt. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Taylor.
That's one minute gone in the round. Taylor fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Escobar misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Taylor shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Escobar but Escobar pushes him off and we're back to square one. Vinicius Escobar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Taylor misses with a takedown attempt - Escobar sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Escobar moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Taylor fails in his attempt to clinch. Taylor feints and as Escobar raises his hands in defense, Taylor changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Taylor throwing strikes from guard but Escobar blocks nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Taylor is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Taylor pushing down on Escobar's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Taylor passes to full mount! Taylor putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Taylor is going olschool here, as he tries to force Escobar to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Escobar shrugs it off.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Taylor landing strikes from the mount and Escobar is in trouble! Escobar looks gassed! Escobar wants to get back to his feet but in bucking up he's left an arm hanging out! Taylor has locked onto it and has pulled off a slick armbar! Escobar taps furiously! This one is all over!
