PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Debbie Haroldson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamal White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jamal White told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Debbie Haroldson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jamal White!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haroldson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
White stuffs the takedown attempt from Haroldson. Haroldson gets slowly back to his feet.
White fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
White misses with an attempted mid kick.
White looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

White clinches.
Haroldson tries a body shot but White blocks it.
Haroldson could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Haroldson jumps into guard, dragging White to the mat.
White seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
White wants to control from the top but Haroldson keeps moving.
White won't allow Haroldson to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

White keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Haroldson's head.
White tries to stand but Haroldson is controlling from the bottom.
Haroldson is breathing heavily.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Haroldson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Haroldson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
White won't allow Haroldson to get back to his feet.

White decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Haroldson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and White holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
White drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Debbie Haroldson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jamal White.
White landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

White jumps into guard, dragging Haroldson to the mat.
Haroldson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

White's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

White manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

White wants to control the pace but Haroldson is squirming around nicely.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
White takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Haroldson tries to hold on but White postures up.
White tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
White lands with some strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
White lands a big shot there that rocks Haroldson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

White is standing up, even though he is in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamal White dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



White drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

White stands up.

White fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Haroldson sprawls well initially but White persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
White is trying to control. Haroldson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
White passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Haroldson!
White postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Haroldson looks a forlorn figure.

White avoids the attempt from Haroldson to control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
White sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
White can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Haroldson is looking to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Haroldson is desperately trying to improve his position but White has a good base and remains in mount.
Haroldson is squirming around, avoiding White's attempts to control the action.
White landing strikes from the mount.
White is in the full mount, landing strikes.
White punishing his opponent with strikes.
Haroldson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Haroldson is looking to get to half guard.
A nice elbow there by White.

White landing shots from mount.
White connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Haroldson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
White landing punches.
White controlling from the full mount.
Haroldson can't escape the position.
White tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Haroldson is trying to reverse the position but instead White has taken his back - oops!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamal White showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Haroldson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and White decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Haroldson's guard.

White stands up from guard. Let's bang!

White gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
White has Haroldson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Haroldson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Haroldson breaks from the clinch.
Haroldson thuds his shin into the meat of White's side.

White gets a takedown into half guard.
Haroldson is trying to get back to full guard.

Haroldson makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Haroldson darts in trying to clinch
and White counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Haroldson.
Haroldson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Haroldson fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Debbie Haroldson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

White can't keep his opponent in guard - Haroldson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Haroldson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Haroldson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but White does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
White looks like he's trying to stand up.
Haroldson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Haroldson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for White!
White is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Haroldson controlling from mount.
Haroldson trying to control but White is having none of it.
Poor strikes thrown by Haroldson there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
White is looking to get to half guard.
Haroldson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as White is looking to escape.
Haroldson prevents White from getting the reversal.
Haroldson wants to control the pace but White is squirming around nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jamal White.
Well White has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
