Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Perl! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Field! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Alyssa Summers and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Field shoots for a double leg takedown but Perl sprawls well. He's pushed Field's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Field closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Perl might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Perl is trying to buck Field off. Field is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Field tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Field throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Perl takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Perl is trying to buck Field off. Perl taking a bit of punishment here - Field scoring with strikes. Perl is pushing Field's head away, looking to escape. Field manages to hold on to the position though. Perl is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Perl is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Field really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Perl. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Perl explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Field shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Perl's guard. Field trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Perl throws a lazy right hand but Field sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Perl fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Field manages to avoid it. That's two minutes gone in the round. Perl shoots in looking for a takedown. Field tries to sprawl out of it but Perl keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Field manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Excellent takedown into side control there by Field. Perl is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Field with the ground and pound but Perl regains half guard under the barage of strikes. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Perl pushes Field off looking to stand but Field dives back in and keeps control.
Perl makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Field with a poor takedown and Perl counters with a single leg into guard. Field didn't expect that. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Perl trying to control but Field is working from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Field shoots and misses and Perl counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Field shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Field thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Perl's head. Perl manages to escape and get back to his feet! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Field throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Field shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Perl counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Perl connects with a couple of short punches. Field tries to land a sweep but no joy. Perl trying to stand up but can't free himself from Field's guard. Perl decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Field, up you get! Field fails with the takedown enabling Perl to counter with a crisp jab.
