PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sam Spooner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oliver Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hill has chosen Electric Gypsy - LA Guns as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hill takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Spooner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Spooner really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Spooner is trying to get an arm triangle but Hill is defending well.

Spooner is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hill is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hill shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Spooner sprawls well. Spooner wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hill gets slowly back to his feet.

Spooner is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hill is just riding it out for now. Spooner eventually gives up the hold.

Hill is looking to control Spooner's arms but Spooner gets an underhook and turns him. Now Hill has his back to the cage.

Hill closes the distance and clinches.

Spooner wants to break free but Hill has control.
Hill tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Spooner just stands there and leans against the cage.

No joy there for Spooner, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Spooner tries to work over Hill's front leg with a kick but Hill checks it.
Spooner feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Hill's calf.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Spooner.
Some bone on bone action there as Hill checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hill tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Spooner counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Hill is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Hill lands a jab to the head.
Spooner wants to clinch up but Hill keeps it at a distance.

and Spooner holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Spooner breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Spooner throws a shot from downtown. Hill moves away and avoids it.
Hill throws a right and a left that Spooner avoids nicely.
Spooner throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Spooner tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Spooner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Spooner keeps control of Hill as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Hill can't get the takedown.

The referee is keeping an eye on Hill - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Spooner tries to pull guard but Hill holds him up against the cage and eventually Spooner drops back down to his feet.

Hill has gone for a leg lock! Spooner slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hill's guard.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hill cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sam Spooner.
Well Spooner has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
