Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sven Verdek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Woleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sven Verdek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Woleman!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verdek keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Verdek looks to land a body kick but Woleman moved away.
Woleman moves out of range of the leg kick from Verdek.
Verdek slips a jab from Woleman.
Verdek is looking to clinch but Woleman is avoiding it.
Verdek lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Woleman circles away quickly and effectively.
Woleman misses with a double jab.
Verdek throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Woleman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Verdek misses with a body kick.
Woleman getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Woleman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Woleman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Woleman throws out a loose jab but Verdek uses good head movement to avoid it.

Verdek stuns Woleman with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Woleman throws a series of punches but Verdek avoids them all with ease.
Mark Woleman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Woleman throws an overhand right that lands on Verdek's shoulder, as Verdek tries to avoid the shot.

and Verdek counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Verdek misses with a few strikes there.
Verdek throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Verdek dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Woleman. That did some damage!

Woleman lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Verdek ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Woleman moves away.
Woleman swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Verdek tries to land a leg kick but Woleman saw it coming and moves away.
Woleman avoids the head kick by Verdek.

and Verdek counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Verdek escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Woleman waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Verdek.
Verdek cracks Woleman with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.

and Verdek counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Verdek working over Woleman with some ground and pound. Woleman looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Woleman is staying active underneath Verdek, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Verdek winds up and cracks Woleman with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Verdek is working for a submission of some sort.

Woleman makes his way to full guard, as Verdek worked for a kimura.

Woleman controls Verdek momentarily but Verdek frees himself.
Woleman pulls Verdek in close to prevent any damage.
Verdek has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Woleman wants to sweep here but Verdek controlling him for the moment.
Verdek slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Woleman defending against the ground and pound.
Verdek throws an elbow but Woleman slips to the side and avoids it well.

Verdek tries for a kimura but Woleman is defending well.
Verdek scoring with punches from side control.
Woleman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Verdek wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Woleman can do anything to dispel that myth.
Woleman has one of Verdek's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Woleman can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sven Verdek dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


An inside leg kick from Verdek misses.
Woleman just misses with a punch to the body.
Woleman thows a body shot but no joy.
Verdek throws a hook to the side of Woleman's head but Woleman sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Verdek decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Woleman's guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Verdek drops back looking for a leg! Woleman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Woleman manages to kick Verdek off! Verdek jumps back into Woleman's guard.

Verdek is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Woleman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Woleman has escaped and now he's on top!

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Woleman is sitting in close to Verdek's body. Verdek has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Woleman is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Woleman is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Verdek.
