Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jaska Romppainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vic Sotto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jaska Romppainen could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Vic Sotto's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jaska Romppainen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vic Sotto! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Excellent takedown into side control there by Romppainen. Romppainen tries for a kimura but Sotto is defending well. Romppainen misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Sotto is looking for a sweep. Romppainen remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Romppainen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Romppainen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Romppainen tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Sotto is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Romppainen trying to control the position but Sotto is working away. Sotto is looking for a sweep. Sotto is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Romppainen is trying to control. Sotto wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Romppainen is looking for a kimura but Sotto is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Romppainen to get the leverage. Romppainen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Sotto wants to get back to his feet.
Sotto controlling the position well. Romppainen is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sotto doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Romppainen.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Sotto looks like he's trying to stand up.
Romppainen seems to be looking for submissions.
Sotto is refusing to be controlled, as Romppainen sits in half guard. Sotto wants to control but Romppainen is keeping busy and won't allow it.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Romppainen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sotto was covering up waiting for the punch and Romppainen finishes the takedown easily into guard. Romppainen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sotto swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Romppainen trying to control but Sotto is working from the bottom. Romppainen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sotto manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Romppainen has Sotto in his guard. Romppainen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sotto! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Sotto tries to hold on but Romppainen pushes him away. Romppainen wants to control the pace but Sotto is squirming around nicely. Romppainen moves to take his opponent's back. Romppainen missing with strikes. Romppainen just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Sotto defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Romppainen's arms. Romppainen tries to get the hooks in deep but Sotto pushed the leg off. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jaska Romppainen dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Sotto lets loose with a powerful body kick. Romppainen will feel that in the morning. Sotto looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Romppainen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sotto. Sotto moves in looking to clinch but Romppainen pushes him off. Romppainen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Sotto counters with a stiff right hand. Romppainen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sotto napping and manages to drive through into side control! Romppainen is looking to take a break and control but Sotto is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Romppainen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sotto has escaped the position, nice work there. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Romppainen trying to control the position but Sotto is working away.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Romppainen shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Romppainen was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Sotto is squirming around, avoiding Romppainen's attempts to control the action. Romppainen controlling his opponent. Sotto tries to control Romppainen's body but Romppainen pushes him off. Sotto squirms to his side and now Romppainen has his back! You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Sotto is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Romppainen off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Romppainen looking to hold on to the position here but Sotto rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Romppainen passes Sotto's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Romppainen is taking a breather. Sotto says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Romppainen is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Sotto looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Romppainen is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sotto is pressing down on Romppainen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Sotto is looking to stand up but Romppainen isn't so interested in that idea. Romppainen stands and throws Sotto's legs to the side, diving into side control. The referee asks Romppainen politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Romppainen prefers to stall for the moment though. Romppainen tries for a kimura but Sotto is defending well. Sotto is not content to let Romppainen control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sotto shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Romppainen defends it nicely. Romppainen shoots in but Sotto avoids the takedown attempt easily. Romppainen shoots in for a takedown but Sotto shows good takedown defense. Romppainen misses with a takedown and Sotto counters with a straight punch to the midsection. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jaska Romppainen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sotto shoots in for a takedown but Romppainen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Romppainen tries for a takedown but Sotto circles away easily and Sotto counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Romppainen slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Sotto looking to pass the guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Romppainen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sotto gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Sotto postures up in Romppainen's guard and throws a big left but Romppainen blocks it. Romppainen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sotto! Sotto tries to reverse the position but Romppainen maintains control. Sotto is controlling an arm, preventing Romppainen from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Romppainen looking for the choke from the back. Romppainen is looking to control Sotto but Sotto is wriggling around and keeping busy. Romppainen has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Sotto has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
