Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Myers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John D Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Myers comes to the cage accompanied by Down with the Sickness. The crowd seem to be enjoying Armstrong's choice of entrance music: Drowning Pool - Bodies (Let The Bodies Hit The Floor) . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John D Armstrong! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Armstrong forces Myers back against the cage and clinches. Armstrong digs a right hand underneath Myers's ribcage. Myers let out a lung full of air as it connected. Myers tries to circle away but Armstrong has him pinned against the cage. Stalling in the clinch from Armstrong.
Armstrong gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Myers.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Armstrong creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Myers's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Armstrong throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Myers clinches up with Armstrong and pushes him back against the cage. Armstrong is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Myers tries to pull guard but Armstrong holds him up against the cage and eventually Myers drops back down to his feet.
Myers has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Armstrong is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Myers's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Myers fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Myers throws a series of punches but Armstrong moves out of range. Myers throws a leg kick but Armstrong moved away. Armstrong instigates a clinch. Myers changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Armstrong fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Myers swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Armstrong darts in trying to clinch and Myers counters by moving into the clinch. Myers keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Armstrong's efforts to push away. Myers is trying to break free. Myers is trying to break the clinch but Armstrong has him pressed against the cage. Myers manages to break the clinch.

and Myers counters with a head kick. That will keep Armstrong thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Some wild striking there from Armstrong.

Myers is rocked! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Armstrong misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

No, Myers has escaped the position, nice work there. Armstrong tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Armstrong has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Armstrong works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Check out the look on Armstrong's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Armstrong tries to clinch up. Myers has Armstrong up against the cage in a clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Myers has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Armstrong is trying to keep an underhook but Myers manages to get the takedown into half guard. Myers not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Myers prevents Armstrong from improving his position. Armstrong is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Armstrong avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Myers. Armstrong is staying active underneath Myers, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Myers seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Armstrong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Myers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Armstrong pushes Myers off and gets back to his feet. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Armstrong lunges at Myers with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Myers's hand. Myers instigates a clinch. Myers breaks from the clinch.

Myers lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Armstrong throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. John D Armstrong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Good exchange - Armstrong coming out on top. Myers swats away the attempt to clinch by Armstrong. Armstrong is looking to clinch but Myers is avoiding it.

Let's see if Armstrong can do anything to dispel that myth. Myers landing some decent shots from guard. Myers shoots in for a takedown but Armstrong shows good takedown defense. Armstrong wants to clinch. Armstrong bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Myers's head backwards. Myers shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Armstrong taking shots to the head.
