Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between jose gomez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutten misses with a hook.

gomez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rutten sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten gomez somewhat.
Rutten jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rutten throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rutten looks to score with a jab to the body but gomez is just out of range.
gomez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rutten tries to avoid it but gomez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rutten to the ground. Rutten escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rutten throws a looping overhand right but gomez ducks down to avoid it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rutten really doesn't want to stay on the ground with gomez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rutten got a little sloppy there for a moment and gomez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rutten has managed to get both his arms back between gomez's legs - danger averted.

gomez isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Rutten stacks gomez on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Rutten!
