Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, R J MacReady! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Quinton Johnson! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Anthony Taglia and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson misses with a jab, cross combination.
MacReady wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. MacReady shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. MacReady connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Johnson misses with a body shot.
Johnson lands a body shot.
MacReady shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Johnson but Johnson pushes him off and we're back to square one. MacReady fails in his attempt to clinch. A jab lands there for MacReady. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! MacReady shoots for a double leg takedown but Johnson sprawls well. He's pushed MacReady's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for R J MacReady. That's going to take a lot out of him. Johnson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Johnson wants it to stay on the feet. MacReady shoots in and bounces Johnson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. MacReady lands a couple of elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson wants to stand but MacReady is controlling the position. MacReady wants to stand and escape but instead Johnson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Johnson is looking to stand up but MacReady won't let him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson stopping the sweep attempt from MacReady. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. MacReady is working hard here to advance position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Johnson wanted to stand there but MacReady had control of the position. MacReady is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
R J MacReady dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Johnson takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
MacReady fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. MacReady misses with a looping right. MacReady throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Johnson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Johnson drops MacReady with a beautiful combination! MacReady stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Johnson is looking for the KO!
MacReady is rocked!
It looks like R J MacReady has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. MacReady dodges the punch combination from Johnson.
Oh MacReady is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Johnson fakes the body blow, causing MacReady to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! MacReady goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Quinton Johnson!
