PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Mueller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximo Meridio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Meridio has chosen O Fortuna - Carl Orff as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Thomas Mueller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Maximo Meridio! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mueller moves out of range as Meridio strikes. Mueller keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mueller tries a head kick but it misses.
Mueller tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Mueller misses with a takedown attempt - Meridio sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Mueller looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Meridio throws a head kick that misses and Mueller counters with a shoot takedown. Meridio fights it but they end up in guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Meridio is on top in guard.

Meridio has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mueller keeping moving, preventing Meridio from controlling successfully. Mueller is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Meridio defends well. Meridio drops back looking for a leg! Mueller is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mueller manages to kick Meridio off! Meridio jumps back into Mueller's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Meridio trying to control the position from guard on top but Mueller is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Meridio is looking to advance position but Mueller has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Meridio holds on to Mueller around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks. Meridio is trying to escape the mount.
Mueller trying to control but Meridio is having none of it. Meridio keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Mueller looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Mueller avoids the attempt from Meridio to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Meridio holds on to Mueller as tight as he can, avoiding damage. Meridio is trying desperately to improve position. Meridio bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Mueller is breathing heavily. Meridio advances position into side control!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mueller is trying to control Meridio's posture but Meridio avoids it. Meridio scoring with punches and elbows. Meridio cracks Mueller with an elbow. That is naaassty. Meridio is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mueller is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Mueller on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Mueller is not content to let Meridio control the position. Check out the look on Meridio's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Meridio wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mueller keeps working. Meridio wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mueller, who protects the arm well. Meridio landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Meridio controlling the position. Meridio in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Mueller is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
