PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ben Dover (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andru Albrecht (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Albrecht comes into a darkened arena with his song building. No Sunshine by DMX kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Dover!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andru Albrecht!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Steve Montenegro and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Albrecht closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Albrecht lands in his opponent's guard.
Dover looking for a sweep. Not yet Dover, not yet.
Albrecht looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Albrecht avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Albrecht is stalling in the full guard.
Dover keeping moving, preventing Albrecht from controlling successfully.

Dover is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Albrecht is controlling him.
Dover is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Dover drops an elbow to the side of Albrecht's head.

Dover thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Albrecht's head.

Dover wants to work for an arm triangle but Albrecht is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dover connects with a nice short shot to Albrecht's temple.
Dover has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Albrecht is trying to control but can't.
Dover scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Dover tries to pass the half guard into mount. Albrecht knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Dover wants to stand but Albrecht has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Albrecht will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Dover looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dover is trying to maintain the position but Albrecht is very close to passing his half guard.
Dover is looking for a sweep. Albrecht is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Dover is pressing down on Albrecht's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Dover is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Albrecht seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Despite being in the dominant position, Andru Albrecht just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dover shoots and misses

and Albrecht counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dover's guard now.

Albrecht is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Albrecht wants to pass the guard but Dover is keeping the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Albrecht can do anything to dispel that myth.

Albrecht throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dover was covering up waiting for the punch and Albrecht finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Dover looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Dover wants to sweep here but Albrecht controlling him for the moment.
Albrecht is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Albrecht not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Albrecht really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dover. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well Albrecht has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
