Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between manny makunouchi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elvin Ruez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). makunouchi comes into the arena with sandstorm blaring out of the sound system. Ruez has chosen Face Breaker - Poison Pen as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from makunouchi.

Ruez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. makunouchi was covering up waiting for the punch and Ruez finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ruez stands up over makunouchi, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
makunouchi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ruez controls the pace.
makunouchi tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Ruez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks makunouchi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ruez pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

makunouchi drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ruez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now makunouchi has Ruez in his guard.
Ruez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
