PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Liddel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Montana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fred Liddel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tony Montana!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddel keeps the fight on the outside.
Liddel scores with a one two! Montana had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Montana has managed to clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Liddel goes for a takedown in the clinch but Montana prevents it.
Montana goes for a takedown attempt but Liddel pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Liddel lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Montana circles away quickly and effectively.

Liddel gets a clinch.

Come on Liddel - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
A hook to the body from Montana.
Montana lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Montana wants to stall.
Liddel looking to stall.
Montana has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Liddel avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Liddel blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Montana misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Liddel.

Liddel jumps guard and drags Montana to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Montana must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Liddel looks to clinch

so Montana counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Liddel avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Montana drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Liddel manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Montana has Liddel in his guard.

Liddel keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Montana's head.
Montana is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Montana looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Liddel passes into half guard.
Montana trying to hold on to Liddel's head to control him but Liddel postures up.
Liddel perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Liddel will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Montana kicks Liddel off and gets back to his feet.
Liddel tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Montana holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A nice right hand lands inside from Montana.
Montana tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Montana tries to score a body lock takedown but Liddel shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Fred Liddel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Montana.
Montana misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Montana doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Fred Liddel will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Montana clinches but Liddel breaks the clinch
and Liddel makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Liddel tries to close the distance and clinch but Montana swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Montana shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Liddel as he avoids it easily.
Montana closes the distance but Liddel moves to the side
enabling Liddel to counter with a crisp jab.

Montana scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Liddel tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Still in the clinch, Liddel scores with a nice short uppercut.
Liddel prevents a takedown attempt there.

Montana turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Montana is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Liddel has escaped the position, nice work there.
Montana in side control, throwing shots but Liddel defends.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Montana is trying to ground and pound but Liddel uses the momentary lack of control by Montana to regain half guard.
Montana looks to land a strike but Liddel avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Liddel looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Montana lands a couple of digs.
Montana scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Montana chips away with some ground and pound.
Montana wants to pass the guard but Liddel is keeping the position.
Montana postures up in Liddel's guard and throws a big left but Liddel blocks it.
Montana connects with a couple of short punches.
Liddel controls Montana momentarily but Montana frees himself.

Montana throws and elbow that misses. Liddel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Montana's guard. Nice move by Liddel!

Montana is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Liddel defends well.

Montana isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Liddel stacks Montana on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Liddel!
Montana is breathing heavily.
Montana tries to improve position but can't.
Montana tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Liddel lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Liddel postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Montana looks a forlorn figure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Fred Liddel will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Liddel counters with a series of strikes. Montana will be more careful next time no doubt.


It looks like Tony Montana has been cut.
Liddel throws a push kick but Montana slaps the foot to one side.

Fred Liddel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Liddel lands with a nice body punch.

Montana swings wildly with an uppercut but Liddel uses good head movement to avoid it.
Montana looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Montana changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Liddel fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Liddel rushes Montana and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Montana is pushing Liddel up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Montana has a couple of punches blocked by Liddel.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Liddel.
A nice left hand lands by Montana.

Montana has hold of one of Liddel's legs. Liddel is fighting the takedown attempt but Montana gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Montana is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Tony Montana has got the better of the ground game so far.

Montana working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Liddel has passed into half guard!
Fred Liddel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Montana scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Liddel manages to mount him!

And that's the end of the fight!
Fred Liddel showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Liddel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
