Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Markakis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Ricard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ricard has chosen Dust in the Wind by Kansas as his entrance music. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dennis Markakis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Ricard!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Markakis gets the takedown into side control.
Ricard is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Markakis has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Markakis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ricard keeps working.
Ricard tries to buck Markakis off but Markakis is having none of it.
Ricard is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Ricard dodges the ground and pound from Markakis.
Ricard tries to bench press Markakis off him but Markakis keeps the position.
Markakis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ricard on the ground.
Ricard gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ricard preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Markakis wants to pass to mount but Ricard is defending the position.
Markakis trying to control the action but Ricard is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ricard moves into full guard.
Markakis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ricard is proving hard to escape from.
Ricard pulls Markakis in close to prevent any damage.
Ricard wants to stand up but Markakis is controlling him.

Ricard pushes Markakis off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Markakis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ricard but Ricard pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Markakis is breathing heavily.
Nice body kick from Markakis.
Markakis looks for a takedown but Ricard sprawls well.
Ricard gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ricard looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Ricard gets a clinch.
Come on Ricard - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
The is referee keeping an eye on Markakis - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Ricard breaks the clinch.

Ricard moves into range and clinches up with Markakis.
Ricard lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Knees to the body from Ricard.
Ricard scores a nice knee to the body.

Ricard stalls.
Markakis wants to break the clinch but can't.

Ricard manages to pull guard.
Markakis looking to sit in guard and control but Ricard gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ricard controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Ricard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ricard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Markakis is working an open guard so Ricard takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricard closes the distance and clinches.
Ricard has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Markakis avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Ricard manages to break the clinch.
Markakis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Ricard moves into the clinch.
Ricard tries a knee to the head but Markakis blocks it.
The is referee keeping an eye on Ricard - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Ricard escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ricard fails with the takedown
and Markakis counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

and Ricard moves into the clinch.

Ricard breaks from the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ricard pushes Markakis up against the cage in a clinch.
Ricard blocks an elbow strike.
Ricard changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Markakis fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Dennis Markakis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Ricard.

Ricard darts in and clinches Markakis up against the cage.
Ricard prevents the takedown attempt.

Ricard escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Markakis thuds a left hand into Ricard's body.

Ricard not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Ricard throws a big right hand that misses.
Ricard would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Markakis is wriggling around but Ricard manages to pass to half guard.

Markakis moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Ricard won't allow Markakis to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ricard wants to control from the top but Markakis keeps moving.
Markakis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ricard passes into half guard.
Ricard is trying to control the action in half guard but Markakis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Markakis trying to hold on to Ricard's head to control him but Ricard postures up.

Ricard stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Ricard looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Markakis is fending him off so far but Ricard persists. Nope, Markakis circles away and we're back to standing.

Ricard darts in and clinches Markakis up against the cage.
Ricard stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Ricard scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Markakis shoots and misses

and Ricard counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Markakis's guard now.
Frank Ricard has got the better of the ground game so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Markakis being controlled here, momentarily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Markakis controls Ricard momentarily but Ricard frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Ricard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Ricard forces Markakis back against the cage and clinches.
Markakis has had enough of the clinch but Ricard keeps him there for the moment.

Ricard breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Markakis fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Markakis has his takedown stuffed
and Ricard counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Markakis is lucky that one didn't land flush.
A head kick from Ricard lands but Markakis takes it in his stride.

Ricard shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.


Markakis is rocked!
Ricard controls from within his opponent's guard.
Oh Markakis is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Markakis seems to have got his legs back now.

Markakis looking for a sweep. Not yet Markakis, not yet.
Ricard takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ricard wants to stand but Markakis is controlling his posture from full guard.
Markakis is trying to keep Ricard in close.
Ricard is pushing down on Markakis's leg trying to pass to half guard. Markakis is fighting to maintain full guard but Ricard has managed to sneak the leg through.
Ricard not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Ricard controlling the action here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ricard stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Markakis stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Horrible takedown by Ricard or perhaps it was just good defense by Markakis which made him look bad.
Markakis throws a sloppy head kick

and Ricard counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ricard passes Markakis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Ricard passes into side control, despite Markakis's attempt to control the position.
A lull in the action here.

Markakis tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ricard wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Markakis is trying to control Ricard's posture but Ricard avoids it.

Ricard stands up and beckons Markakis to his feet.
Ricard shoots in looking for a takedown. Markakis tries to sprawl out of it but Ricard keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Markakis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ricard takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Markakis doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ricard holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dennis Markakis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ricard decides to pull guard.
Ricard is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Dennis Markakis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ricard is on top in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ricard seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Ricard stands up from Markakis's guard - Ricard perhaps looking for a knockout.
