PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vlad Petreski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raphael Giordani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Petreski comes to the cage accompanied by I Had to Kill a Lot of People. Giordani has chosen "Assassin" by Muse as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vlad Petreski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Raphael Giordani!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giordani throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Petreski's waist but Petreski gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Giordani off to one side.
Giordani is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Petreski.

Petreski is trying to get an arm triangle but Giordani is defending well.
Giordani wants to get back to his feet.
Petreski is looking to take a break and control but Giordani is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Petreski looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Giordani tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Petreski wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Giordani is looking for a sweep.

Petreski has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Petreski throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Giordani is looking to clinch.
Giordani doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Petreski counters with a shoot takedown. Giordani fights it but they end up in guard.
Giordani manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Giordani manages to capitalize on a mistake by Petreski to take his back!
Petreski is breathing heavily.
Petreski breaks Giordani's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Giordani wants to get back to his feet but Petreski is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Petreski wants to control from the top but Giordani keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Petreski accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Giordani looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Petreski passes into side control.

Petreski wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Giordani, who protects the arm well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Giordani misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Giordani trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Petreski manages to pass to mount!
Petreski avoids the attempt from Giordani to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Giordani gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Petreski blocks the strikes from Giordani.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Giordani is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Giordani is trying to control but can't.
Petreski seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Giordani does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Petreski counters with a takedown into side control.
Giordani is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Petreski's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Petreski thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Giordani's head.
Giordani wants to improve his position but Petreski is controlling well.
Giordani is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Giordani clinches but Petreski breaks the clinch

and Petreski decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Giordani's guard.
Vlad Petreski overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Petreski thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Giordani is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Petreski defends well.

Giordani is looking for a triangle but Petreski pushes his legs off easily.

Giordani scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Petreski shoots and misses

and Giordani counters by clinching up.
Giordani with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Giordani throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Giordani tightens his grip and picks Petreski up, before dumping him to the ground. Petreski manages to land in guard.

Giordani gets to his feet. Petreski looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Petreski counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Giordani is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Petreski defends well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Giordani controls Petreski momentarily but Petreski frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Petreski avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Giordani can't keep his opponent in guard - Petreski advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vlad Petreski dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Giordani looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Petreski!

Giordani is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Petreski has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Petreski!

Giordani throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Petreski escapes and throws Giordani's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Petreski wants to control but Giordani is keeping him busy.

The strikes coming from Petreski are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Giordani tries to bench press Petreski off him but Petreski keeps the position.
Giordani avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Petreski.
You can see the frustration on Giordani's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Giordani gets back to half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Petreski counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Petreski stands up and waves to Giordani to follow him.

Giordani looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Giordani is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Giordani had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Petreski defends it easily.
Petreski slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Petreski is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Giordani is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Giordani is trying to control Petreski's posture but Petreski avoids it.
Vlad Petreski is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Giordani is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Raphael Giordani has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Giordani is trying to control Petreski's posture but Petreski avoids it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Giordani shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Petreski counters with a takedown into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vlad Petreski showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Petreski, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
