Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Smythe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Chase might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to All the Above - Maino. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Chase! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Smythe! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Columbo Gatti and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fighters circle momentarily. Chase darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Smythe ducks right into an uppercut from Chase. Smythe closes the distance and clinches up with Chase, looking for a takedown. Smythe pushes Chase against the cage but Chase circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Smythe avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Smythe throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chase's waist but Chase gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smythe off to one side. Smythe tries to close the distance and clinch but Chase swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Chase scores with a hook to the body. Smythe takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Nice body punch from Chase. Chase lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Smythe fails with the takedown. John Chase has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimmy Smythe. Smythe looks gassed! Chase throws a solid leg kick but Smythe takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Chase. Smythe fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Chase avoids it really well and circles away. Smythe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Chase to score an easy takedown into full guard. Chase throwing strikes but missing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chase advances to half guard. Smythe is not content to let Chase control the position. Chase is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Chase works his foot free and advances to mount. Chase throwing strikes here but Smythe is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Chase is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Smythe has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Smythe! Chase tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smythe wants to get up but he can't break Chase's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Chase keeping moving, preventing Smythe from controlling successfully. Chase pulls Smythe in close to his closed guard and prevents Smythe from doing any damage or advancing position. Chase tries to land a sweep but no joy. Chase is working hard here to advance position. Smythe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chase is on top in guard.

He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Smythe for as long as he can get away with. Chase is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Chase is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Smythe is just riding it out for now. Chase eventually gives up the hold. Smythe takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Chase connects with a right hand. Smythe shakes it off. Smythe takes one to the chin there.
