PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee has chosen Linkin Park - Crawling (Reanimation Version) as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nate Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jesse Lee!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Diaz has Lee pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lee manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Diaz looking to stall.
Lee just leaning against Diaz, taking a breather.
Lee missing with knees to the body.
Lee has Diaz pressed against the cage, preventing Diaz from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Diaz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lee pulls his leg out and moves away.

Diaz tries to keep at a distance but Lee has taken the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nate Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Lee takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Diaz wants to get back to striking at distance but Lee won't allow it.
Diaz tries to break the clinch but Lee is controlling the position.
Diaz takes a knee to the side of the body.
Diaz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Diaz gets underhooks to prevent Lee's takedown attempt.
Diaz has had enough of the clinch but Lee keeps him there for the moment.
Diaz wants to get back to striking at distance but Lee won't allow it.
Lee tries to score a body lock takedown but Diaz shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Diaz wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.

Lee is working an open guard so Diaz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Diaz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Diaz.
Diaz is breathing heavily.
Diaz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lee avoids it really well and circles away.

Diaz misses with a head kick.

Lee clinches up with Diaz and pushes him back against the cage.
Diaz tries to pull guard but Lee won't allow it.
Diaz creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Lee stalling.
Diaz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lee taking a breather.
Diaz jumps guard but Lee stands there with Diaz around his waist. Diaz gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Lee gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Diaz has a closed guard, preventing Lee from standing up.
Lee slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Lee postures up in Diaz's guard and throws a big left but Diaz blocks it.
Lee controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Diaz throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse Lee dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lee as he jumps to the side.
Diaz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lee pinned against the cage. Lee gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Diaz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Lee counters by clinching up.
Diaz is trying to maintain a safe position but Lee gets an underhook and turns Diaz into the cage.
Diaz prevents a takedown attempt there.
Diaz is trying to break the clinch but Lee is controlling him.
Diaz tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lee just stands there and leans against the cage.
Diaz is trying to force a seperation but Lee has the dominant position.
Lee goes for a takedown in the clinch but Diaz prevents it.
Lee lands a nice elbow.
Lee landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

A left and a right from Lee both land. Nice combination.

and Lee counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Diaz ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Diaz no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Lee slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lee gets to his feet - Diaz follows without any prompting.
Diaz has his takedown stuffed

so Lee counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Lee is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Lee decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Diaz, up you get!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Diaz throws out a loose jab but Lee uses good head movement to avoid it.
Lee throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Diaz's head.

and Lee counters with a shoot takedown. Diaz fights it but they end up in guard.

Lee gets to his feet - Diaz follows without any prompting.

and Lee counters with a single leg into guard. Diaz didn't expect that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Lee shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Diaz's guard.

Lee decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Lee counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Lee.
Diaz looking to throw knees to the head but Lee is blocking nicely.
Diaz wants to get back to striking at distance but Lee won't allow it.
Lee lands a damaging elbow.
Diaz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lee walks away with a smile on his face. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Lee counters by moving into the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Still in the clinch, Diaz scores with a nice short uppercut.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Diaz goes for a takedown in the clinch but Lee prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nate Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lee breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nate Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Lee counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lee in particular looking to stall.
Diaz trying to hold on to Lee's head to control him but Lee postures up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Diaz wants to control but Lee is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Lee seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Diaz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Nate Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jesse Lee is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Jesse Lee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
