Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darrian Ashoka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Bakunin!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Alyssa Summers and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice cross by Bakunin.
Bakunin throws a lazy right hand but Ashoka sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
No joy there for Ashoka, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Bakunin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ashoka manages to avoid it.
Ashoka uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bakunin.
Bakunin takes a swing at Ashoka's ribcage but misses.
Ashoka is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bakunin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bakunin. Ashoka does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ashoka swings for the body but Bakunin moves out of range.
Ashoka takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Ashoka gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Ashoka throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Bakunin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ashoka.

Bakunin connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Ashoka momentarily.
Ashoka uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bakunin.

Bakunin lands a glancing blow to the side of Ashoka's head.
Ashoka throws a series of strikes that have Bakunin backpedaling.
Ashoka avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Bakunin throws a low kick but Ashoka avoids it.

and Ashoka counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bakunin's guard now.

Ashoka throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bakunin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Bakunin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ashoka trying to control the position from guard on top but Bakunin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ashoka stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bakunin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ashoka is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ashoka tries to move into range but Bakunin moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Jake Bakunin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bakunin throws a predictable looking body shot

and Ashoka counters with a single leg into guard. Bakunin didn't expect that.
Bakunin pulls Ashoka in to control the position.
Let's hope that Bakunin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Bakunin wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Ashoka manages to pass to side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bakunin can do anything to dispel that myth.
Bakunin is trying to stand back up but Ashoka is controlling him

Bakunin is not content to let Ashoka control the position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bakunin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ashoka is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jake Bakunin will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ashoka throws a body punch but Bakunin moves out of range.

Ashoka is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bakunin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Bakunin misses with a series of wild punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ashoka misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Ashoka keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ashoka scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Bakunin doesn't seem bothered though.
Jake Bakunin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ashoka drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Bakunin can't do much from the bottom here.
Bakunin is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Ashoka is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bakunin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ashoka throws a strike aimed at the side of Bakunin's head but Bakunin avoids it well.

You can see the frustration on Bakunin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ashoka has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Bakunin!

Ashoka throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Bakunin wants to control but Ashoka is having none of it.

Ashoka has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ashoka misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Ashoka sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Bakunin is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
